Harry Potter: Daniel Radcliffe isn’t so Keen on Doing a Cursed Child Adaptation Now

Potter fans began the New Year with some nostalgia with the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter and HBO Max was even able to bring back a lot of the original actors in the series. With the Cursed Child play focusing on an older Harry, Daniel Radcliffe was asked if he would be open to doing a film adaptation soon. Too bad for fans though, because he doesn’t seem to be too open to the idea… right now.
Talking to The New York Times (via Variety), Radcliffe said, “I’m never going to say never, but the ‘Star Wars’ guys had like 30, 40 years before they went back. For me, it’s only been 10. It’s not something I’m really interested in doing right now.”
If anything, Radcliffe is mostly not doing it because he doesn’t want the commitment that’s required of a big franchise film (and it’s possible Cursed Child could be a string of movies rather than just one). Radcliffe continued, “This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back [for the reunion] and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore… I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of ‘Potter’ okay and I’m really happy with where I am now, and to go back would be such a massive change to my life.”
To be fair, a lot of fans aren’t really that pleased with the story of Cursed Child and refuse to accept the whole thing as canon. If anything, the play kind of forgets the core mystery themes of the original Potter books, and instead overhauls a lot of the established story moments thanks to some time travel shenanigans.
Personally, I would just love a story in the future focused on a new batch of magical kids, but as Radcliffe said, it could be too early for that.
In the meantime, Fantastic Beasts and the Secrets of Dumbledore is set to hit theaters on April 15.
