Get ready to give puddin’ some love, because it looks like Harley Quinn’s adventures will continue on the small screen! The character is already set for her own spin-off movie with Jared Leto’s Joker, and now a new animated TV series focusing on Harley has been added to the mix. DC’s digital platform has made a series order for the “Harley Quinn Animated Series” and will span 26 episodes all within half an hour. But take note, this isn’t something that kids could watch because it’s going to be an R-Rated comedy animated series as well.
Harley Quinn will break things off with The Joker
Deadline reports that following the failure of NBC’s DC sitcom “Powerless,” the executive producers of the show, Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey will produce the animated series via Warner Bros. Animation. But this isn’t the only good tidbit from this announcement; Margot Robbie—famously known as the DCEU’s Harley Quinn from “Suicide Squad”—is the lead choice to voice the character too.
Not much is known whether Robbie will sign on for the project, as well as the other contenders for Harley Quinn’s voice role. As for the other character details, Poison Ivy, along with a couple of villains from the DC Universe is set to make an appearance on the Harley Quinn animated series. The story will follow Harley as she breaks things off with Joker and sets out on her own to become Gotham’s Crime Queen.
Further details on the Harley Quinn animated series are scarce, as the show is still in the works. But lucky for us, development art has also been released (seen above), and it looks like the feel and style of this animated series will be immensely different from the style of all the other DC animated movies and series that have previously been released. It’s also unclear if The Joker will make an appearance, having been said that Harley will sever her ties with the Clown Prince of Crime.
The Harley Quinn animated series follows the other DC shows on its digital platform, namely the live-action Titans series from The CW’s “Arrowverse” Executive Producer Greg Berlanti and the upcoming “Young Justice” animated series revival.
