Grimm Season 6 Episode 1 Recap (Spoiler Alert): Fugitive Nick vs Murder Suspect Mayor Sean Renard

In the first episode of “Grimm” Season 6, which premiered Jan. 6 on NBC, the viewers immediately find out what happens next after Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) was forced to save Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli). Spoilers ahead. For readers who have not seen the fifth season finale of this NBC series: A lot of things have changed in Hadrian’s Wall, Black Claw, Juliette Silverton (Bitsie Tulloch) and Adalind Schade (Claire Coffee).

Grimm Season 6 Episode 1, Fugitive Recap

Renard exits the scene without finding out how Nick survived the Black Claw ambush. Nick assumes Renard did save him. But he is expected to find out that he should actually thank Adalind’s Hexenbiest daughter Diana (Hannah R. Loyd).

While navigating Nick’s mystery tunnel, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) agree to not tell anyone that they’re having a baby. Wu (Reggie Lee) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are talking about how to get back at Renard.

Meanwhile, Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) realizes she is now talking to both Juliette and Eve. She feels stuff now, after all. Meisner (Damien Puckler) is dead, she tells her. Soon enough, everyone in the tunnel regroups and learns from Nick that Bonaparte (Shaun Toub) is dead. They are utterly shocked to learn that Renard killed his presumed ally.

“You’re not a ghost, are you?” Wu asks Nick. “I hope not,” he responds. Cut to opening credits. No sighting of Diana, Adalind and Baby Kelly yet.

Grimm 6×1 Recap For Adalind: Nick Is Alive, Bonaparte Is Dead

“Is Nick dead?” Adalind asks Renard when he gets back home to Black Claw’s mansion. They soon deduce that Diana was responsible for Bonaparte’s death. Renard wants to discipline his daughter, but Adalind reminds him he should go easy on the Hexenbiest prodigy for his own sake.

“You should’ve never fallen in-love with Burkhardt. Now you’re gonna regret it,” Renard tells Adalind. He’s not going to own up to Bonaparte’s death. But someone should take the blame before Black Claw.

Back in Nick’s apartment, Team Grimm plans clean-up of dead bodies. To the tunnel, they all go. Nick tells everyone Renard may have been under someone’s control when he killed Bonaparte. Nick and Juliette-Eve briefly talk. It gets awkward when she tells him things changed, or that she could be Juliette again. Will Nick forgive her for getting his mother killed and trying to kill him, too? They split up to simultaneously take care of the dead bodies in Rosalee’s shop.

Renard meets with Black Claw to set things in motion against Nick. He orders a shoot-to-kill. Adalind calls Nick and asks to see him, as Eve almost dies in a Death Grip. Rosalee, Monroe and Trubel deduce that Juliette/Eve is now a “pure soul” because Death Grip worked on her.

At the police station, Wu and Hank learn that Nick is in grave danger. Renard sees his hands bloodied and panics. But he’s hallucinating. While at the Black Claw mansion seeing Adalind and Kelly, Nick learns that he must leave town. He and Adalind kiss goodbye. Prior to this, Adalind explains the spell on her engagement ring. She also tells him she wants to run away, but Nick reminds him he should be with Diana.

Bud Wurstner Helps Team Grimm In ‘Fugitive’

“You’re at the wrong side, Sean.” Renard’s bloody vision continues as police raids Monroe and Rosalee’s house. From this point, things get deadly serious. Noteworthy: Trubel prepares to report to Hadrian’s Wall. Earlier in the episode, she tells Eve/Juliette that the organization may have to regroup elsewhere, not in Portland. More talks about leaving Portland develop as Nick plans to combat Renard. Also, the death of Rachel Wood (Anne Leighton) is now linked to Mayor Sean Renard because his fingerprints are all over her place.

Bud Wurstner (Danny Bruno) proves helpful in regrouping Team Grimm, but only for a while. Renard’s team catches up soon. Eve tries out something to help Nick evade arrest, but she’s failing. The episode ends with one line each from Eve and Renard. The first is “I’m so sorry, Nick.” The other is “Take them down.”

In the next episode, Nick becomes Renard using the same black hat that turned Juliette into a Hexenbiest, into Eve.  “Grimm” Season 6 Episode 2 is called “Trust Me Knot.”
