'Grey’s Anatomy' Season 14 Meredith in a Different Kind of Love This Season [SPOILERS]

Fans can’t expect a Nathan Riggs replacement in Meredith’s heart at least when “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 returns in January. The Chief of General Surgery and mother of three will probably spend the rest of the season alone or with a new interesting partner towards the end of the season.
Dr. Riggs (Martin Henderson) left Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital to be with his fiancée Dr. Megan Hunt (Abigail Spencer). After her romance with Riggs ended, Meredith seems to be doing pretty well. In fact, she ever won a Harper Avery Award for her groundbreaking surgery on Megan. Some fans are okay with Mer being alone for now while other would like to see her dating again.

Speculations On Meredith’s New Love Interest

There had been reports that “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunners are looking for a mid-40s actor that will play the role of a surgeon and will eventually become a new love interest for Pompeo. Apparently, the new sexy and fiery doctor will be from a foreign country. He is also described to be impulsive and passionate about his profession. He and Mer also share something in common – one of their parents is/was a world-renowned surgeon.
However, the plan to introduce a new male doctor seems to have changed. Reports indicated that there has been gender swap and the character is now a woman. According to TVLine‘s Michael Ausiello, the “Grey’s Anatomy” bosses have decided to gender swap the role instead. This means two things – either no love interest for Mer for the rest of the season or she will be paired with a woman.
“Twist — he is now a she! Although producers were initially looking for a fortysomething actor to play the role of the new foreign doctor, I hear the character’s gender has since been changed to female. Which probably means Mer’s dance card is once again empty. Unless … you thinking what I’m thinking,” Ausiello wrote.

Female Love Interest for Meredith in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14

It is not unlikely that Meredith would have a female romantic partner in the show. There have been several same-sex relationships throughout the 14-year run of the medical drama. However, this is Meredith. Is she ready to embark on a different kind of romance? She hasn’t been in this kind of romance before. For now, fans would have to wait if the incoming new character will be romantically linked to Mer or not.
“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 will return on January 18 on ABC.
