In ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14, Episode 3 (“Go Big or Go Home”) Meredith finds herself in a terrible mood. She later connects th              is to Nathan. Meanwhile, Amelia consults an old teacher, brain surgeon Tom Koracick (Greg Germann). Spoiler alert: This review recaps the highlights of Grey’s Oct. 5 episode.

Dr Walter Carr From Meredith’s Past

ABC’s synopsis for “Go Big or Go Home” includes this intriguing line: “a familiar face from Meredith’s past returns as a patient.” Some (very) hopeful fans wished this is Sandra Oh’s Cristina Yang. It turns out the patient is Dr. Carr, Meredith’s former shrink.
Through conversations with Dr Carr, Meredith realizes her foul mood is rooted in Nathan’s actions. She wants him to fight for Megan. She is frustrated that he is giving up. However, both Megan and Meredith do not want to be in a triangle with Riggs. After hearing Mer’s lecture, Riggs will decide in the next episode(s). Who does he want to fight for? Hope for Dr Amelia Shepherd and Owen Hunt

Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) is not in Greys 14×3. (But she is coming back, based on the video tweet below.) Owen does not seem to be missing her that much. Still, Owen wants answers from Amelia. He gets the answers, and things suddenly make sense to him. Or, maybe he just wants to cancel everything out for now. What matters for him now is staying beside Amelia.

Dr Koracick does not want to give anyone false hopes about Amelia’s brain tumor. He will manage it, he says. For her part, Mer has no words to console Amelia. Maggie tells her about it off-screen, but viewers could imagine how shocked she must have been. She shows up at Amelia’s room, lies next to her in the hospital bed, and says nothing (or everything) with a quiet pat. The sisters and the team:

“Go Big or Go Home” also gives Dr Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) ample screen time. She gives Arizona some estrogen-related tips to help a woman in painful labor. (And Ben later applies what he has learned.) It seems this new couple are great together, and not just in bed – even as Arizona could not stop talking about their sex life.

Greys 14×3 Recap, Review

The third episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 14 was written by Meg Marinis and directed by Chandra Wilson, aka Miranda Bailey. It is lighter by a couple of notches compared to the 2-hour premiere last week, despite the death of Jackson’s grandfather, Harper Avery.
Drama kicks in toward the end, when Amelia’s family learns of her brain tumor. It is easy to appreciate the balance between emotional pains and twisty humor in this episode. It also offers clues on what happens next to Jolex.
“Go Big or Go Home” also shows Jo Wilson asking Karev to come back home. Her romantic promposal-inspired spiel should make Jolex fans happy. However, everyone knows Jo’s ex-husband Paul (Matthew Morrison) is likely to visit Grey Sloan soon enough. This is the calm before the storm in the Shondaland slash Shonda Rhimes universe.
Grey’s 14×4, titled “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head”, will air on Oct. 12 on ABC.
