Greta Gerwig ‘s Barbie has Allegedly Wrapped

We haven’t been getting any official promo material for the upcoming Barbie movie, but fans have been going crazy over the set photos that have leaked of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in costume.

While everyone is waiting for an official look at the film, we now have news that the movie may have already wrapped production. This was confirmed by actress Sharon Rooney who shared a photo of herself along with her Barbie co-stars:

The confirmation of the wrap comes from Hari Nef who shared the photo with the caption ‘That’s a wrap for the Doll! See you in Barbieland’.

While we don’t have any official news on the Barbie movie, a lot of alleged details have been leaking online. Rumor has it that the plot involves Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) finding themselves in the real world, and Will Ferrell, who is the CEO of Mattel, is out to get them both and bring them back to Barbieland.

The premise sounds pretty childish, but with Greta Gerwig at the helm with a script from Marriage Story’s Noah Baumbach, I have a feeling that this Barbie movie is going to be so much more than a romp that will sell toys to little girls. If anything, Barbie as an icon has faced a lot of sharp criticism from modern feminists, saying that she promotes an unhealthy beauty standard. Even if that is the case, Barbie can also be thanked for inspiring young women to be independent and successful.

Until we get an official look, all we can really do online is speculate and guess. With a release set for July next year, maybe we can expect a trailer before the year ends.

Barbie is set to come to theaters on July 21, 2023.
