Green Band Trailer for Evil Dead Rise is Still Pretty Terrifying

The Evil Dead franchise has always been about gory horror, but WB Pictures has released a new Green Band trailer for Evil Dead Rise that shouldn’t leave any casual viewer with lingering nightmares.

Check out the latest preview for Evil Dead Rise:

The official synopsis reads:

Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

This is the second attempt at a franchise reboot after the Evil Dead film that came out back in 2013. While the last movie was set to tell a new story with the same core premise of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, it looks like this film will be going to Sequel Reboot route—the same thing that happened with the Star Wars franchise as well as Ghostbusters.

Personally, I thought 2013’s Evil Dead actually pulled it off when it came to modernizing the franchise’s horror and gore, but I guess fans wanted something more connected to the established canon with Bruce Campbell. I’m just wondering if they plan to evolve these new films too until we get some kind of ghoulish comedy like the next Army of Darkness in the next few years.

Evil Dead Rise is set to come out in theaters on April 21.
