In the midst of the various DC movies planned by Warner Bros., it looks like all systems are in place for director Gavin O’Connor’s Suicide Squad sequel. It’s now confirmed that Todd Stashwick, an actor for FOX’s Gotham, will co-write the film alongside O’Connor.
There were plenty of DC movie updates that stormed fans’ delight over the past weeks, mostly focused on expanding the stories of the rogue’s gallery of Suicide Squad. Margot Robbie is set to star in the Birds of Prey movie as Harley Quinn, while Jared Leto’s Joker is set to have his own separate film (apart from what Martin Scorsese is producing). And over at the DC Universe, the newest streaming service platform of the comic book publisher, an R-rated animated Harley Quinn series is also being developed.
That said, it’s clear that the studio is dead set in pursuing solo movies for each of the Suicide Squad characters. In the latest episode of Popcorn Talk’s “DC Movie News” on YouTube, Stashwick made a guest appearance to confirm that he was signed on to co-write the script for Suicide Squad 2. Come to think of it, Stashwick is no stranger to the DC universe. The actor played Richard Sionis/The Mask in Gotham Season 1’s “The Mask” episode, as well as Season 2’s “Damned If You Do… ”
However, Stashwick has no other writing credit aside from a Star Wars video game that he is currently working on. But given the actor’s exposure to various TV roles, it could prove to his advantage to craft a unique premise to Suicide Squad 2. Stashwick also mentioned that DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns is actively involved in the sequel’s writing.
According to TheWrap, the premise of Suicide Squad 2 will revolve around the team’s mission to find a powerful new Weapon of Mass Destruction in the form of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Other details for Suicide Squad 2 are kept under wraps, but it’s good to know that the studio is taking its time to build the character storylines of the anti-hero film. Will Smith, Robbie, and Leto are all set to reprise their roles, with the other characters for the sequel awaiting confirmation.
