Looks like Gotham‘s best bad girl will be sleeping with the fishes — at least for now.
Jada Pinkett Smith, who co-stars in the DC origins series as mob boss Fish Mooney, confirmed that she would not be returning for its second season.
Pinkett shared the news Friday morning during her appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael, where she was asked by the pair about her future with the hit series.
“I signed for a year and the year is up,” Pinkett Smith said.
Though at present she is not slated to appear going forward, her character’s current arc — which places Mooney in a mystery location in Europe after her move against Falcone failed — leaves the door open for the character to re-appear at some point later on.
“She could show up anywhere, you never know!” Pinkett Smith joked.
Despite her departure, the actress had positive things to say about the series going forward. “There are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There’s a lot of good stuff coming.”
