Gotham City remains helpless even if Jeremiah Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) is in the hands of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). In the Gotham Season 4 Finale, titled “No Man’s Land,” Selina Kyle (Camren Bicandova) is in danger, and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) needs to choose between her and Gotham.
Jeremiah’s Tricks
Now in GCPD’s possession, Jeremiah stays helpless due to handcuffs and bars he’s in. But his requests still are stronger than the Waynes combined. He asks for Bruce to see him and talk about something. Jim doesn’t allow that to happen. However, Jeremiah threatens Jim about the remaining bombs in the city.
Without a choice, Jim calls Bruce and sends him to the cell that Jeremiah is in. In there, Bruce asks about the other bombs that Jeremiah hid from Jim and the others. But instead, he tricks Bruce into believing that everything that is happening is someone else’s fault and not him.
In a fast swipe, the lights dimmed and turned off. All a sudden, Bruce and Jeremiah disappeared inside the cell. The guards are dead, and there is no sign of them.
Same Old Love
After Bruce went missing, a Military General warned Jim of the possible outcomes of what he’s planning for the city. He, later on, claims that Jim commits insubordination; sending him with handcuffs to a distant place. But to Jim’s surprise, when he’s in the parking lot with two soldiers, both fell to the ground.
The Riddler/Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) shot the two with a dart gun. He cast a riddle that answers as “sleep” before shooting Jim as well. Jim wakes up in The Narrows under The Riddler’s terms. In fact, he’s under a mechanical press machine which will crush his ribs if The Riddler wants to. The Riddler wants to get back at Jim who escaped him the last time to save the city.
Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) arrives and makes sure that Jim doesn’t get his ribs crushed. But The Riddler argues with her instead. All he wants is proof of Leslie’s love for him. But Leslie explains that she can’t be what The Riddler wants her to be. She has her own identity, and she’s sticking with it. But Leslie assures The Riddler of her love for him. They leave Jim with him uncrushed and leaves The Narrows once and for all.
Women vs. al Ghul and Jeremiah
In an attempt to avenge Selina’s injuries, the League of Shadows plans an all-out attack against two men. One being Ra’s Al Ghul (Alexander Siddig), their old leader, and Jeremiah. It’s also Ra’s who took Jeremiah and Bruce out of the cell in GCPD.
Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) mended the dagger prophesied to kill Ra’s. When the original League of Shadows brought back Ra’s to life, Ra’s broke the dagger himself, ending the prophecy. But now that Barbara mended it, Ra’s life is again in danger. But since they have Bruce, he can’t kill Ra’s once again.
To distract Ra’s allies, Barbara baits them to fight with her allies. While both sides fight against each other, Barbara retrieves Bruce and lets him hold the dagger. Once again, Bruce stabs Ra’s in the stomach, fulfilling the prophecy. Now that Ra’s died, he asked Bruce to fulfill his destiny, “You should be Gotham’s dark knight.”
Gotham Season 4 Finale: ‘No Man’s Land’
Edward Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) avenges his mother against Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas). Now that he killed Tabitha’s only love, The Penguin continues to reign against the League of Shadows. All he wanted was to penetrate the organization to get his plans straight.
Meanwhile, The Riddler confronts Leslie about her love for him. But Leslie knows that The Riddler is carrying a knife with him. With fast reflexes, Leslie stabs The Riddler first. But before he falls to his knees, The Riddler manages to stab Leslie in her gut too. Now they both fall to the ground, lifeless.
Although Selina survived Jeremiah’s attack, the doctor claims she is still in grave danger. With the bullet damaging her spinal column, she might not be able to walk again. Bruce stays with her when they transfer her to another hospital.
The episode ends with Gordon and Bruce standing side-by-side as Gordon lights up the skies of Gotham with a signal (soon to be Bat signal?). They talk about hope and how there’s always something that can be done to save Gotham.
