Gotham City is in its last six hours. Jeremiah Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) threatened Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) into turning the city back to the Stoneage. In FOX’s Gotham, Season 4, Episode 21, titled “One Bad Day,” Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) absence might mean the end of Gotham.
Gordon in the Narrows
Edward Nygma/The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) plays the hero and saves Jim from the site that Jeremiah blew up. He and his people take him to The Narrows for safety. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) acts like a doctor and makes sure that Jim gets healed to perfect health. But to Edward, this is an issue of who Leslie loves and not love.
Despite the rising tension between Jim and Edward, they still managed to interpret a blueprint that Jim found in Jerome’s old base. What looks like a map of a labyrinth is an exact copy of Gotham City. Jeremiah wants to fulfill his brother’s task of building the city into a maze; something that he considers a safe space.
Now that Jim knows Jeremiah’s plan, he tells Edward that he’s living in the Narrows to save the day. But Edward prohibits him from doing so. But Jim is eager to escape and ends up punching Edward out cold. Jim returns to Gotham to tell Harvey that he now knows what to do to save the city.
“Am I Your Best friend?”
Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) saves his friend Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) from Jeremiah. He visits an abandoned building where he thinks Alfred is. Bruce brings Selina Kyle (Camren Bicandova), who comes with him in an instant. Upon entering, Bruce sees Alfred through a projector that he’s in danger.
Tied to a chair, Alfred screams for his life. Bruce goes deeper into the building and looks for Alfred. While he’s in it, he is unaware of the laughing gas spraying in the building. It was a trap to make Bruce crazy. But with Selina on his side, Bruce realizes that Jeremiah is controlling him.
Alfred suffers from the laughing gas when Bruce found him. When Bruce tried saving Alfred, he grabs a blade and slits his cheek to form a bigger smile. He then attacks Bruce who never fought back because of his emotional attachment to Alfred. But Selina realizes that the Alfred Bruce sees, in fact, is a decoy. Due to the laughing gas’ effect, Bruce sees things in a different. Selina saves Bruce and kills the Alfred who tried to kill him by shooting his head.
The real Alfred comes and asks Bruce to snap out of everything.
Saving Gotham City
Harvey sacrifices himself to make sure that the network of bombs gets disrupted. The only way to do that is to remove a circuit breaker to one of the bombs. They located the weapons, and now it’s Harvey’s turn to be the hero. But to their surprise, there were two circuit breakers instead of one.
In the blueprint that they recovered, there was only one circuit breaker. Perhaps, Jeremiah modified the plan to ensure its security towards threats like these. Harvey panics and lets his luck decide the fate of Gotham. Meanwhile, Jim broadcasts that he’s alive and lets Jeremiah know he failed to kill him. Out of disappointment, Jeremiah detonates the bombs but ends up waiting for nothing. Harvey picked the correct circuit breaker which disrupted the network of explosions in Gotham City.
Ra’s al Ghul of the League of Shadows makes contact with Jeremiah. He plans to make sure that Bruce gets what he deserves after killing him and resurrecting him back to life. Later, Jeremiah goes to the Wayne Manor and shoots Selina. Bruce frantically tries to revive Selina, as Alfred tackles Jeremiah and punches him repeatedly.
“Gotham” continues next Thursday, May 17th, with the Season4 finale episode titled “No Man’s Land” at 8/9c on FOX.
