Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) is in grave danger. The League of Shadows is on its way to reclaim what is theirs. In FOX’s Gotham Season 4, Episode 19, titled, “To Our Deaths And Beyond,” the original members of the league bring Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) to help resurrect their leader Ra’s Al Ghul (Alexander Siddig).
A Love Rekindled
Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) and Edward Nygma/The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) are set to become the best criminals in Gotham. In an attempt to get Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock’s (Donal Logue) attention, they rob five banks in a night. This series of crimes alerts the police, including Jim and Harvey.
Meanwhile, with Ra’s rebirth, he goes to see Barbara in her new lair. After a heated confrontation, Ra’s asks for Barbara’s hand. He aims to reclaim the Demon’s Head which he says he gave to the “wrong” recipient. Of course, Barbara won’t allow Ra’s to derail her “destiny.” She runs off from Ra’s and escapes with Bruce’s help.
Barbara then plans to kill Ra’s again. But Bruce says that is not possible. According to the ritual, only Bruce can kill Ra’s again. This is after his blood also gave back the life he took from Ra’s. Along with that is a spell-imbued knife that he has to use. Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) helps Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) reclaim the blade. They go and steal it from the museum where Bruce donated it after killing Ra’s.
Riddling The Riddler
We can say that The Riddler is having a bit of an identity crisis. Edward Nygma is still inside him somehow. Leslie controls Edward through the “power” of their old flame. In that way, Leslie has control over The Riddler while getting what she wants. But in an instant, The Riddler comes out of Edward and plays with his mind.
The Riddler reports back to Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor). He admits that he has been under some sorcery from Leslie. But now that he snapped, he shares their bigger plan with Penguin. The first five banks were only part one of the whole plans. The following attacks will be worth millions more. Together, The Riddler and Penguin is a stronger team of villains.
Leslie becomes a subject of betrayal. As her and The Riddler rob another bank, Edward turns bad against him. He becomes The Riddler once again. At this point, Leslie got her hands tied behind her back. She has no escape. But this was only one of The Riddlers tactics. This is a betrayal of Penguin. Instead of locking Leslie in the cell of the bank, he proves his love for her. But with James’ arrival on the scene, Leslie decides to save The Riddler. James captures Leslie, while The Riddler is still on the loose.
Mastering The Demon’s Head
Barbara goes and fights Ra’s. But as soon as she stabbed Ra’s, he only said “ouch.” However, it instantly triggers Barbara’s ability to control The Demon’s Head. She can now see the future where she dies from the stabbing. Barbara then avoids Ra’s’ attack and survives.
Tabitha is now in the hands of Ra’s. He threatens Barbara that if she doesn’t give the power back to him, Tabitha dies. Barbara becomes selfish and chooses the ability to stay with her. Now that Tabitha’s throat is slit, Ra’s gets to get the power back. But again, it was all a premonition. Now that she knows what will happen, Barbara saves her friend Tabitha. But this gives Ra’s the chance to get the Demon’s Head.
When Ra’s acquired the power back, he escapes and brings with him the power of the Demons Head. Powerless, Barbara mops the lair of the League of Shadows. The female members of the league then approach her. She feared that they would kill her. But since she saved Tabitha’s life, they respect her. The league decided that they will serve Barbara with or without the Demon’s Head, saying, “to our deaths, and beyond.”
Gotham Season 4, Episode 19: To Our Deaths And Beyond
Ra’s gives a surprise visit to Bruce and Selina in the Wayne residence. He tells Bruce of his fortune becoming Gotham’s “Dark Knight.” A fire will wipe Gotham clean. If that doesn’t kill Bruce, something else will.
“Gotham” continues next Thursday, May 3rd, with “That Old Corpse” at 8/9c on FOX.
