GOTHAM: Nygma Steps Out From Penguin's Shadow in the Spring Premiere

Every hero needs a villain.

It’s therefore fitting that Gotham’s upcoming hero-themed installments (the remainder of this season’s episodes will be prefixed with the the title “Heroes Rise”) will see the future Riddler’s rise to infamy, alongside that of  young Bruce Wayne, who will finally begin his own training to become the notorious masked vigilante.

The show returns to FOX on April 24 with “Heroes Rise: How the Riddler Got His Name.” The Network teases that the spring premiere will see Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) convincing himself that he doesn’t need Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) to succeed, and beginning to introduce himself to Gotham as “The Riddler.”

Meanwhile, says FOX, Bullock (Donal Logue) and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) get caught up in Nygma’s mind games, Gordon (Ben McKenzie) learns troubling news about his father’s death and the Court of Owls reveals its next move.

The following week, (May 1) Ben McKenzie makes his directorial debut in the “Heroes Rise: These Delicate and Dark Obsessions” episode, and in subsequent episodes this season, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) lifts the veil off the Court of Owls to find the man pulling the strings is the enigmatic and powerful Ra’s Al Ghul (guest star Alexander Siddig).

As villains get more depraved, Gotham’s heroes will rise, including Bruce, who begins training to become the notorious masked vigilante.

Gotham returns with “Heroes Rise: How The Riddler Got His Name,” on Monday, April 24 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
