Actor Shane West is set to join the fifth and final season of Fox’s Batman Prequel drama series Gotham as the new arch enemy, according to Deadline.
The former Nikita star is said to take on the role of Eduardo Dorrance, a war veteran and old friend of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). His character returns to Gotham to help Gordon restore order to No Man’s Land with his team of elite soldiers. Gordon begins to notice that Dorrance’s intentions are not-so-pure, putting the city of Gotham in grave danger. No further details were disclosed about West’s character, but based on the Batman comic universe, it is believed that he could be related to Sir Edmund Dorrance, otherwise known as King Snake, father of Bane. It is even possible that he may be Bane himself.
Gotham’s ratings have been dropping per season but was still renewed by FOX because of its amassed multi-platform audience of 5.8 million. Production is estimated to be worth $1.75 million per episode. Executive producers Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens say that its new and final season will “wrap up the entire origin story of the great DC Comics super-villains and vigilantes.”
West’s new role is his comeback to Warner Bros. TV since his last lead role in action series Nikita and a supporting role in the hit drama series ER. His last part was in WGN America’s drama series Salem. He shares the spotlight with Gotham stars Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, and David Mazouz, who play Jim Gordon, Harvey Bullock, and young Bruce Wayne respectively. Also returning this season are cast members Morena Baccarin, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, Camren Bicondova, Cory Michael Smith, Jessica Lucas, Chris Chalk, Drew Powell, Alexander Siddig, and Crystal Reed.
Gotham season 5 is currently in production and has no set release date.
