The Biggest Secret in Gossip Girl: Blake Lively and Penn Badgley Hushed Breakup

Everyone knows that The CW’s Drama series “Gossip Girl” centered on whispers and mounds of buried secrets. And while we may think that we’ve dug all the dirt to be uncovered, there’s this one secret that got away. Who’s dirty laundry is it this time? It’s none other than Serena Van Der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey AKA Blake Lively and Penn Badgley.

This month of August is the 10th Anniversary of Gossip Girl! To celebrate, Blake Lively had a talk with Vanity Fair, where the actress revealed both nostalgic stories behind the set, and the biggest gossip the series failed to reveal.

On the first day of Gossip Girl, cupid paid a visit and shot an arrow to two characters on set. The two love birds ended up being Blake Lively and Penn Badgley. Ironically though, when the two started dating, they kept their relationship secret because they were afraid it would get them into trouble. In the interview, she says:

“I remember there was one point where we were just afraid of how our personal lives overlapping our work life could be perceived by our bosses.”

But instead, they found out how advantageous it was for the series to engage them in a legitimate relationship. Because in the show, they would end up together anyway.

“At the time, I was wearing the same clothes and doing fashion shoots, and dating the same person that my character was dating — or sometimes that person [Dan] was my brother, you never know with Serena — and because of that, what people were projecting onto me was that I was Serena,” the award-winning actress said.

“We [Serena] look the same, and we acted the same as far as they could tell because I wasn’t doing anything but that show. If [Penn and I] were photographed walking down the street, they didn’t know if it was a paparazzi shot or if it was a shot from the show.” She continued.

But sadly, 3 years into the show and into their love nest, the two decided to part ways. It was somewhere in Season 2. Although while love between them dwindled, Serena’s and Dan’s didn’t. Because in the season 2 finale, the two even ended up marrying each other.

Just imagine finishing 2 more seasons pretending that you were so helplessly in love with your co-actor, when in fact you two had broken up. That’s what Blake Lively and Penn Badgley had to go through.

The two had to ensure that their personal lives and their careers were distinct from one another. And that isn’t an easy emotional task to do. According to the report, the two kept the break up to themselves because they didn’t want it interfering with the show’s flow. Executive Producer Joshua Safran even praised them for their professionalism.

Right now, both Blake and Penn are doing great. Blake had married “Deadpool” actor Ryan Reynolds. And just recently this year, Penn happily married Domino Kirke.
