Marina shows Nao’s horoscope from a magazine that says whoever she spends Christmas eve with, she will get to spend her life with that person.
One morning, Nao finds Uehara sleeping in the living room. Uehara tells Nao that he doesn’t have work that day. Someone knocks on the door, and when Nao opens it, Yuri just walks into the house carrying a lot of shopping bags. She tells them that there is a sale nearby and she couldn’t stop herself from buying. She gives Uehara the Taiyaki she bought for him and his facial expression immediately changes.
Seeing the two of them laugh and joke around, Nao feels like it’s no use for her to stay at home that day. She goes out while still thinking of the two. She crosses the street without looking, and it’s too late for the motorcycle to slow down. The motorcycle slips and the driver falls to the ground. Nao approaches the driver and apologizes. The rider quickly removes his helmet and sees the pieces of shattered bowls scattered on the road.
Nao finds out that the shattered bowls were a special request to a potter maker and three were worth $12000. The rider tells her that since she can’t pay for it then they should talk to Nao’s parents. Nao tells the rider that she can’t ask for her parent’s help. So instead of asking for money from her parents, Nao asks the rider to let her work in the shop until she pays the $12000.
Working at the shop proves to be difficult, and Nao keeps on breaking the plates. When Nao comes home, she sees a Christmas tree in the living room. Uehara tells Nao that the tree was a gift from Yuri as a housewarming gift. Nao asks Uehara what his plans are for Christmas eve and he tells her he has to work on Christmas eve.
While talking to his friends Mitsuishi and Marina, Nao receives a text message asking her to meet on the rooftop. The message reads “Will you spend Christmas with me? I’ll be waiting for you on the roof after school.”. Nao goes to the rooftop and meets with Abe Jun. Abe asks Nao to spend Christmas eve with him. Nao tells him that Marina has already told her about him. The school calls him “Confession King” because he falls in love easily and keeps on texting the ladies who already turned him down. Marina also tells Nao that Abe uses the same line to all the girls he likes.
Nao’s friends know that Nao doesn’t like Abe, but Marina thinks they can use him.
Nao turns Abe down and apologizes. Abe gets surprised and asks her if the rumor is true that Nao is already dating Uehara. Nao knows she can’t deny it so she says ‘yes’. Abe gets sad and says that it’s absolutely unfair that Uehara is handsome, smart, and is good at sports. Nao comforts him and tells him that he will meet someone someday who can’t live without him, but that person is not her.
While Nao and Abe are still talking, Marina and Mitsuishi come out the door with Uehara. Marina tells Uehara that since the school thinks the two of them are dating, Nao can’t say yes to Abe because Uehara’s fans will think Nao is two-timing him. Marina adds that Nao usually spends time with friends but since she has a boyfriend now they no longer let her join. Marina tells Uehara that it would be nice if he becomes a little nicer to Nao since Nao sacrifices a lot for him.
At the cafe where he works, Nanako tells Uehara that Christmas eve is important to girls. She tells him that the girls don’t want to spend Christmas eve alone so they go to parties looking for a partner. Upon hearing this, Uehara assumes that this is the reason why Nao has been coming home late at night.
Nao checks the calendar, worrying how she can pay for the broken bowls. She figures out that even if she works 8 hours a day, she won’t be able to pay for the bowls. Uehara sees Nao looking sad and assumes that she’s sad because of what Marina said.
Daichi, Marina, and Mitsuishi visit Nao and meet the rider, Issei. On their way home, Daichi tells Nao that if she doesn’t have any plans on Christmas eve then they can just spend it alone together, instead of the traditional family party. Daichi doesn’t get to finish what he is saying because Nao sees Uehara and starts hiding.
Late at night, when Nao gets home, Uehara asks her if there is a place she wants to go to because the 24th happens to be his day off. Nao is surprised to hear this, and she can’t hide her happiness.
Nao remembers that Daichi asked her to spend Christmas eve together so she goes to his room only to find out that he is not there. On their way home, Nao and her friends talk about the possibility of Nao and Uehara’s relationship being a real one. While they are talking, Abe appears from behind a tree. Abe finds out that Uehara and Nao are not really in a relationship.
After work, Nao sees a dress that she likes but realizes that she doesn’t have the money. She meets Yuri outside and they go home together. Yuri hands Nao a red dress as a Christmas gift.
Daichi and Uehara meet outside that night. Daichi asks Uehara to pass his message to Nao. He tells him that he will pick up Nao the next morning past noon because their families always spend time together every Christmas eve. Only this time, they will spend it with just the two of them.
At home, Uehara tells Nao that he has work the next day so it won’t matter if she prepares or not. Uehara tells her that he won’t worry about Nao anymore since she’ll be spending time with Daichi.
Daichi visits Nao even she already turned downs his offer. He says he came over because Nao sounds really sad. Nao suddenly faints. Daichi looks after Nao and even offers to cook porridge for her. While preparing her food, Daichi sees the food that Nao cooked. He goes out to buy a cake and finds Uehara there. He tells Uehara that Nao likes the typical food every Christmas eve, but that night he found a different set of food like Uehara’s favorite rolled cabbage. Daichi tells Uehara that he should keep his promise.
Though he is still wearing his Santa suit, Uehara grabs a cake and goes home. Uehara sees Nao’s uniform for work, and Nao admits that she has a part-time job at a ramen shop.
They spend Christmas eve together while sharing the cake Uehara brought. The next day Nao meets with Abe and tells him that she likes Uehara. While Nao confesses her feelings, she sees Uehara standing not too far from them.
Our Thoughts:
We think that it would be best for Nao to pick Daichi. At least Daichi looks after her, unlike Uehara who is always mean to her. But we know that the second lead almost never wins, and it seems like that will be the case for this one. It’s kind of mean for Nao as well to pick Uehara over Daichi when it comes to who she wants to spend her Christmas eve with since she and Daichi have spent it together since they were kids.
