Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are 90s icons; besides their series Kenan and Kel, they also had a successful film with Good Burger which was spawned out of an All That sketch featuring Mitchell’s dimwitted burger clerk Ed. It’s been almost 25 years since the film released, but Mitchell and Thompson have announced that a sequel has been greenlit.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the duo have confirmed that Good Burger Part 2 is going to start filming this summer, and should be coming out pretty soon. Check this out:
The official logline of the movie (via Variety) reads:
“Dexter Reed (Thompson) is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed (Mitchell) welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.”
We don’t have any official promo material for the sequel yet, but it does kind of feel like a kid-friendly version of Kevin Smith’s cult film Clerks. For more context, here’s one of the Good Burger sketches from All That that the movie is based on:
Besides Mitchell and Thompson returning, I’m hoping they manage to bring in some other celebrity cameos. Did you know that it was a young Linda Cardellini (Hawkeye, Freaks and Geeks) that played the girl in the psych ward?
No release date has been announced for Good Burger Part 2, but I’m guessing we could get a release sometime in 2024.
