With “Game of Thrones” season 7 arriving next month, series showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have recently confirmed that they’re almost done creating the storyline for season 8.
It’s been a longer wait than what we’ve all been used to for the next season of “Game of Thrones,” but we’ve all been given a few hints on what season 7 might entail. There’s lots of action, dragons and possible someone taking over the Iron Throne. Two trailers have also been released, and we couldn’t help but speculate away.
Speaking of speculations, more information has been revealed over the past few days including a future encounter between Arya and Baelish (confirming a long-running fan theory). The trailers didn’t feature extensive detail, but basing off from the brief shots of war and action also suggest that Cleganebowl is on its way.
Game of Thrones Season 8 ‘Nears’ Completion, Showrunners Address Season Delay
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Game of Thrones” showrunners Weiss and Benioff were asked about where they were in terms of the stages of completion for season 8. Benioff said, “it’s nearly completed. Well, I shouldn’t say nearly.” To which Weiss replied, “I wouldn’t go that far. It’s exciting but there’s always pressure. You don’t ever want to drop the ball.”
Another rumor also started circulating about “Game of Thrones” season 8 not being shown until 2019. Given the bigger production requirements for the last season of Thrones, and the delayed completion of season 7, the theory could actually be true. When asked about it, Benioff said:
“We honestly don’t know yet. There’s been a lot of back and forth about air dates. That’s a long way off from being settled.”
The news that writing for season 8 is on schedule is a welcome bit of information. This also means that the show is nearing its end sometime soon. But with the grander scope of the final season being considered, it also most likely that it will be delayed for longer than season 7 has. Who knows, maybe by this time, George R.R. Martin would have already finished “The Winds of Winter.”
