Game of Thrones‘ final season began with the reunion of its main characters. A lot has transpired in the last seven seasons, and all of them have gone through significant changes. One of these characters is Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who went from the Stark Siblings’ youngest sisters into becoming a deadly assassin. In her journey, Arya met Gendry Baratheon (Joe Dempsie), a young, talented blacksmith who happens to be a Baratheon bastard.
Arya and Gendry’s reunion starts a bit awkward. With Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane (Rory McCann) standing between them, one could not help but feel odd. As The Hound finally left, Arya starts flirting with Gendry, at least in her strange way. After this, Arya hands Gendry schematics, asking him to craft it for her. Their interaction was brief, but it sufficed. Still, one cannot help but wonder, what on earth does Arya need a weapon of such specifications?
Keep in mind that Arya has a considerable arsenal. Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) gave her a sword, which she named ‘Needle’ before he left for the Knightswatch in Season 1. Arya’s latest acquisition is an unnamed dagger made of Valyrian steel, the same blade that meant to kill Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) while he was in a coma. Ultimately, Arya uses the knife to kill Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen) in Winterfell.
Based on the design, it is safe to assume that Arya is preparing for the fight against the White Walkers. Also, she trusts Gendry’s craftsmanship in fashioning a weapon suited to her skills. The schematics tell us that Arya wants a staff-dagger hybrid where the blade is removable from the staff. Arya’s abilities in combat permit her to switch in between weapons, much like we do in RPGs. With an infinite amount of dragonstone, the worlds best armies, and two dragons, the living stand a fighting chance against the advancing undead.
