Game of Thrones Season 7 Official Trailer: The Great War Is Here

We’re just a month away before we witness the epic scale of what’s to come in “Game of Thrones” Season 7. The trailer has just dropped today, teasing a Great War and the many actions and disasters ready to be inflicted upon Westeros and the North.

This will be the follow-up to last season’s tease, where we saw Daenerys Targaryen with a fleet of ships, an army of Unsullied troops, Dothraki Warriors and her dragons. Show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been at this for six season, with the last two being the conclusion to George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Breakdown

At long last, HBO finally gave us the full picture of what to expect on “Game of Thrones” season 7. We see a lot of action, and the seven-episode season looks to be anything but a slow builder. We’ve got different factions within Westeros planning things against each other, Daenerys’ full-grown dragons hovering over an army of Dothraki warriors and more battles and bloodshed than ever before.

There’s a lot to pick up from the trailer. It starts by showing Arya wandering alone in the North. We see Sansa and Baelish conversing about her father’s throne (which is now Jon Snow’s responsibility) at Winterfell. Cersei and Jaime Lannister are also shown trying their hardest to hold on to what they can over Westeros. Cersei’s domestic enemies are obviously planning something to overthrow her, and in the midst of those shots we see the Painted Table and a huge wooden map of Westeros at Dragonstone, with the incestuous siblings walking over their own version of it and examining what they could do (probably crafting a battle plan) on their courtyard.

Just when we thought that the Dragonstone reveal ends there, we then see Daenerys return to the island and castle she was born in. She takes her seat in a new throne just as we’re given a brief show of her Dothraki and Unsullied troops at war. They storm a castle with the Lannister’s sygil. So this couldĀ either be Casterly Rock or King’s Landing.

The rest of the footage reveal Melisandre, Theon Greyjoy, Robert Strong, Ser Davos Seaworth, Greyworm hooking up with Missandei, Tyrion Lannister and the imminent arrival of the Others.

It all ends with a shot of Daenerys flying over her army as she rides on the back of Drogon, now a full-grown dragon. It’s very satisfying albeit frustrating to see and not see much of Daenerys in action, but the new “Game of Thrones” season indeed promises us a wider scope of war and dragons. As Jon Snow puts it in the end of the trailer, “the Great War is here.”

“Game of Thrones” season 7 premieres July 16 at 9 PM on HBO. Watch the official trailer below:
