Game Of Thrones Season 7: Ed Sheeran To Guest Star

After dropping the highly-anticipated album Divide and taking over the Billboard charts, Ed Sheeran is now ready to take on the small screen. Game of Thrones will see a cameo from none other than the “Shape of You” singer himself — and this could be the show’s biggest celebrity cameo to date.

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed the news at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas on Sunday according to Entertainment Weekly. Incidentally, Maisie Williams is a huge fan of the singer. “For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it,” Benioff said.

Game of Thrones: Tradition Of Celebrity Cameos

The past Game of Thrones episodes have featured cameos by a couple of musical celebrities like Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon.

“A lot of [music artists] say they would they would like to [be on the show], and then we tell them [shooting a scene] is so boring,” Weiss said. “‘You’re gonna hate this — you’re going to be sitting around three days for 12 hours a day.’” The producers noted the lead singer of Sigur Rós, Jónsi Birgisson, wanted to leave after his season 3 close-up during Joffrey’s wedding and didn’t realize he had to stick around as a background actor for several more days. “He was a super good sport about it,” Weiss added.

Here’s another update on Game of Thrones, including an episode count for Season 8 and which among the dead characters would the showrunners like to resurrect.

Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on HBO on July 16, 2017.
