Frozen 2 No-Spoiler Review

Are sequels ever as good as the original? Frozen 2 has a solid story and it’s everything you expect from Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven. But the movie is uneven and a little darker than I expected. Here’s my Frozen 2 no-spoiler review.
In Frozen 2, Elsa feels called to learn more about the source of her power. And when she, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven head out “into the unknown” to search for answers, they learn some surprising information about the past.
Overall, Frozen 2 is everything you’d expect from a blockbuster sequel. There are moments of excitement, sadness, fear, joy, and of course some great Olaf humor!
I enjoyed the story. It made sense, wasn’t ridiculous, and gave a good explanation of Elsa’s power and purpose. The voice acting, singing, and animation are superb. We’ve come to expect nothing less from Disney.
I also loved that they made the characters looks just a little bit older and more mature. While this movie takes place only a few years after the original Frozen, you can see the differences when they show flashbacks of Anna and Elsa.
Where I thought Frozen 2 faltered was in the pacing. It was very uneven. Some of the story felt unnecessary, while other parts needed a little more to really get you to that emotional punch. I actually felt bored for a good portion of the movie, with sequences of action or humor popping in to liven things up.
Some moments were pretty sad and dark, but the movie moved past them quickly. The songs were hit or miss and the movie pokes fun at itself more than once. Kristoff’s power ballad and Olaf’s recap of the entire first movie are definite highlights.
In the end, everything came together for an enjoyable experience. Frozen 2 serves up just enough to warm your heart and delight those little Anna, Elsa, and Olaf fans. It’s a solid family movie that everyone will enjoy – but probably not as much as the original.
