FOX Reveals Fall 2017/18 Primetime Schedule

FOX is the first Network to unveil full primetime plans for the 2017/18 season.
The network’s slate includes 4 new dramas, 2 new comedies, and 2 live musical events.
Among the newcomers are Seth McFarlane’s live-action scifi series (not billed as a comedy, fyi) The Orville, along with the X-Men-esque The Gifted, mid-season medical drama The Resident, ER style Emergency Response drama 911 from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, and a premiere date for more X-Files.
Missing from the schedule are Shots Fired, 24 Legacy, and further plans for more Prison Break.
There is also some rescheduling for returning shows with Gotham moving from its Monday night time slot to Thursdays where it will be paired with The Orville.
Mondays will see The Gifted taking over the 9 pm slot, following Lucifer. Lethal Weapon also makes a move to Tuesday night.
FALL 2017
THE GIFTED tells the emotional story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family seeks help from an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
The series stars Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Natalie Alyn Lind, and Percy Hynes White as the Strucker family. Also featured in the series are Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz; Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong, Emma Dumont as Polaris/Lorna Dane, Blair Redford Thunderbird/John Proudstar; and Coby Bell as Sentinel Services Agent Jace Turner.
The series is written by Matt Nix (Burn Notice), directed by Bryan Singer (the X-Men franchise) and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
THE ORVILLE from From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, Ted) and director Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book, Iron Man), is a live-action, one-hour series set 400 years in the future that follows the adventures of The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship, as its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life.
The series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer and Adrianne Palicki (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as his ex-wife, who’s assigned as his First Officer.
GHOSTED is a new comedy starring Craig Robinson (The Office)and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation) This single-camera, action-comedy is about the partnership between two polar opposites – a cynical skeptic and a genius “true believer” in the paranormal, who are recruited to investigate unexplained phenomena in Los Angeles – all while uncovering a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of the human race.
Scott and Robinson also serve as executive producers on the series.
A CHRISTMAS STORY sees FOX and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television partner with acclaimed film, television and theater producer Marc Platt (Grease: Live, La La Land) on the live musical event A Christmas Story inspired by the holiday classic feature of the same name and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production A Christmas Story: The Musical.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, recent Tony Award nominees for the musical Dear Evan Hansen and lyricists of La La Land’s Academy Award-winning song, “City of Stars,” also scored A Christmas Story: The Musical, and will compose several new songs for the event, with Jonathan Tolins and Robert Cary (Grease: Live) adapting the book.
The three-hour live television production of A Christmas Story will air this December on FOX.
MIDSEASON
In 2018, additional new series and events joining the schedule include dramas 9-1-1 and The Resident along with comedy LA to Vegas, and an all-new installment of event series The X-Files.
9-1-1, From prolific creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, new procedural drama is a fast-paced exploration into the lives and careers of first responders – cops, paramedics, firefighters – the people who put their lives on the line to save others.
Starring Academy and Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Angela Bassett (American Horror Story, What’s Love Got to Do with It), the series is based on the real-life, high-pressure experiences of emergency response providers who are thrust into heart-stopping situations that are equal parts unpredictable, intense and uplifting.
THE RESIDENT is a provocative new medical drama that rips back the curtain to reveal the truth of what really happens, both good and bad, in hospitals across the country. This new series will focus on three doctors at different stages of their careers along with a dedicated young nurse.
Starring Matt Czuchry (The Good Wife), Emily VanCamp (Revenge), Manish Dayal (Halt and Catch Fire), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Billions) and Bruce Greenwood (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story), the series’ executive producers include Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza, Indecent Proposal), Antoine Fuqua (Southpaw, Training Day) and Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector), who also directed the pilot.
LA TO VEGAS, from executive producers Will Ferrell (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Elf), Adam McKay (The Big Short) and Lon Zimmet (Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt), and executive producer/director Steve Levitan (Modern Family), is a workplace comedy about an airline crew and the eccentric passengers who, every weekend, take a no-frills roundtrip flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas with one goal in mind – to come back a winner.
The series stars Kim Matula (UnREAL), Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project), Nathan Lee Graham (The Comeback, Hitch), Olivia Macklin (The Young Pope) with Peter Stormare (The Big Lebowski) and Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Dylan McDermott (The Practice, American Horror Story).
THE X-FILES rolls out another 10-episode installment of the event series, once again executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
RENT Executive producer Marc Platt also will team with FOX on this live musical production of the Tony Award-, Grammy Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical. The groundbreaking musical is a re-imagining of Puccini’s “La Bohème,” set in New York City’s gritty East Village, which tells the unforgettable story of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams during a time of great social and political turmoil. Writer/composer Jonathan Larson’s tour de force celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, as it continues to offer an inspiring message of hope and friendship.
