Sanrio has been responsible for cute and cuddly brands like Hello Kitty and My Melody, but one of their more recent mascots is the lazy egg Gudetama.
While Gudetama is just a mascot made to be on keychains, bags, and all kinds of mundane things, we never expected him to get a full series on Netflix. Here’s the trailer for Gudetama: An Eggcelent Adventure:
Here’s the official description for the series:
A lethargic, empathetic road movie about finding one’s parents — for everyone who just wants to laze about!
Having resigned itself to the fact that it will just end up on someone’s plate, Gudetama just wants to be lazy all the time. But, swept up by the go-getting, overbearing chick Shakipiyo, it leaves the refrigerator and heads out into the world. Together, these polar opposites go on an adventure to find their mother!
Since the entire brand of Gudetama is about being a lazy egg, it’s no surprise that his entire shtick for the series is that he doesn’t want to do anything. That’s where his partner Shakipiyo comes in. Though ‘Piyo’ isn’t as popular as Gudetama, the character also comes from the same branding as Sanrio.
With the series all about a mascot that’s supposed to sell cutesy stationary, I imagine that Eggcellent Adventure will have a pretty easy-going story. The visuals do look amazing, and just the look of Gudetama being lazy is enough to make you love the character.
Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventure starts streaming on Netflix Dec. 13.
