First Look at 'Venom' Revealed as New Trailer Hits Online

It looks like Sony’s solo “Venom” movie is going to be a great way to introduce the character into the big screen properly! The first look trailer for the “Venom” movie first hit CinemaCon earlier today (with a few leaks scattered online), but now the official release is here for all of us to enjoy. Along with the trailer also comes the official poster for the movie.

Check out the trailer below:

The new “Venom” official trailer starts out with some scenes from the first international trailer, but it goes uphill from there. We see a little bit of Eddie Brock’s (Tom Hardy) backstory, as well as his love interest, Anne Weying (Michelle Williams). We also get to see Riz Ahmed’s Dr. Carlton Drake as he discovers the symbiote that would go on to bond with Brock’s body. Based on the scenes we see, “Venom’s” backstory is considerably different.

Venom’s Backstory

In the comics, the alien symbiote bonded to Peter Parker in his sleep, and eventually wanted to bond with him permanently. Peter was able to resist the symbiote’s wishes, ultimately ending up in the Fantastic Four’s custody. However, the symbiote escaped and once again attached itself to Peter. This time, he was able to repel it by using the sound waves from a nearby church bell, since the organism is inferior to sonar waves.

It was later rewritten to fit Eddie Brock’s storyline. In the “Sin Eater” storyline, Brock was a reporter who covered the case of the symbiote. However, his report turned out to be erroneous, and he blamed his mistakes on Spider-Man. Brock developed a resentment towards him during this time. He spiraled into depression and was later found seeking shelter in the same Church where Spider-man was removing the symbiote. It then bonded with Brock, and in time became more intelligent than it once was. This scene is also what the “Spider-Man 3” movie adapted for Topher Grace’s take on “Venom.”

But in the new “Venom” movie, it looks like the symbiote will be bonded to Brock by accident. After Dr. Drake found the symbiote and used it for human testing, Brock discovers this inhumane act and tries to expose it to the press (with Brock also working for the paper). Things then take a turn for the worst when he breaks into the facility, and the symbiote latches itself onto him, turning Brock into “Venom.”

But this is as far as what the trailer suggests. Little is known about the entire plot of the movie, and we have about a few months before we see trickles of information released in the succeeding days.

“Venom” hits theaters October 5, 2018.
