First Look at The New Evil Dead Movie

We had gotten an Evil Dead reboot back in 2013, but the film didn’t generate enough hype for a return of the franchise. So far Evil Dead has managed to live on in TV and video games, but now they’re ready to come back to the big screen.

Here’s the first look at Evil Dead Rise:

Here’s the synopsis for the film as well (via Bloody Disgusting):

“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The movie is directed by Lee Cronin and will star Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, and Nell Fisher. Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell is also attached as producer for the film (along with Sam Raimi), but he won’t be reprising the role of Ash this time around.

Admittedly, Evil Dead is one of those weirder franchises that have had a peculiar evolution the more movies came on. While Evil Dead was a straight-up horror film, Army of Darkness was just full of these weird, wacky comedy bits.

Based on the synopsis, I think Rise will lean closer to the franchise’s horror roots, but we’ll just have to wait and see until we get the first trailer.

Evil Dead Rise comes to theaters on April 21, 2023.
