After making Russian Doll for Netflix, showrunner Leslye Headland has signed on with Lucasfilm to deliver a Star Wars series called The Acolyte. The series has managed to nab some interesting stars, and some set photos have given us our first look at Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae’s character.

We don’t have any official details for the show yet, but it’s been said that Lee could be playing the part of a Jedi during the time of the High Republic. It’s worth noting that this was considered one of the most prosperous eras during the SW lore, and it saw the rise of the Jedi.
With the Sith said to be at the center of the story, I’m suspecting that Lee will be playing a Jedi inspector following clues that could point out the rise of the Sith.
Here’s a description for the show:
“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
It’s unclear when Lucasfilm wants to give us an official look at the show, but with these leaks going around, I think we could get something official in the next few months. After the critical success of Andor, I hope The Acolyte embraces more of the essential Star Wars themes rather than the ‘action figure of the week’ show that is The Mandalorian.
Star Wars: The Acolyte is yet to get a release date, but we should expect the show to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
