First Look at Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna in the Weird Al Biopic

Evan Rachel Wood may be an unfeeling robot in HBO’s Westworld, but she’s set to be one of the world’s biggest pop stars in the upcoming biopic about Weird Al Yankovic.

In a new image from Rolling Stone, we have a look at Wood as mega-star Madonna. Check this out:

We don’t know how large Madonna’s role is going to be in the Weird Al story, but we do know that Yankovic did write the parody song Like a Surgeon based on the hit Like a Virgin.

It’s likely that the film might actually exaggerate some parts of the story, seeing that it’s been dubbed as a pseudo-biopic. While we expect some things to be based on reality, there will probably be some numbers that will be more fantastical in their delivery—more or Rocketman than Bohemian Rhapsody.

Besides Wood, the movie has also cast Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, the American DJ who brought Weird Al to the mainstream. Julianne Nicholson and Toby Huss will also be playing the role of Yankovic’s parents.

Yankovic will actually provide the script himself, with help from Erica Appel, who made the mock trailer for Weird Al’s biopic for Funny or Die. Though we should expect the film to be funny, it would be great if we can also have actual history told in the film. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for our first teaser.

No release date has been set for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, but it is set to premiere on the Roku Channel via Funny or Die and Tango.
