First Look at Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al Yankovic

Daniel Radcliffe continues to embrace the weirdest roles after Harry Potter, and last January he signed up to play the king of Weird— Weird Al Yankovic. Just in, Yankovic shares the first look at Radcliffe as himself.

Check Radcliffe out:

Radcliffe (via Variety) had this to say about taking on the role:

“Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly… I’m honored to finally share with the world the absolutely 100% unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life.”

The entire premise of the movie is actually based off a Funny or Die skit which pokes fun at the musical biopic, but this time it’s Weird Al that’s at the center of the story. The guy behind the short, Eric Appel, is also attached as the director of this upcoming movie, and he wrote the script alongside Weird Al himself.

The movie is actually dubbed as a pseudo-biopic, in a sense that it’s based on a true story, but there will be some creative liberties taken when it comes to the execution. If anything, it could be closer to Rocketman than Bohemian Rhapsody.

Radcliffe was the last person I would expect to play someone like Weird Al, but when you look at his previous roles in shows like Miracle Workers, I think he may just pull it off.

No release date has been set for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, but it is expected to come out on The Roku Channel via Funny or Die and Tango.
