First Look at Another How I Met Your Mother Alum Returning for How I Met Your Father

[SPOILERS FOR THE HOW I MET YOUR FATHER 2 PREMIERE]

While How I Met Your Father clearly focuses on a new group of New Yorkers, the show isn’t shy in showing us connections to the original series. Fans were in a shock with the latest episode when Sophie was put face to face with none other than Neil Patrick Harris’ Barney Stinson.

Though Barney only appears at the end of the episode, we should expect him to have a larger role in the next one. I don’t really expect him to hang around for too long, but it would be great if we can get some recurring appearances ever now and again.

No doubt, Barney was one of the most popular characters to come out of How I Met Your Mother, but seeing that HIMYF is supposed to be an exploration on the dating world of the 2020s, it would be interesting to see just how aged Barney’s methods have become—especially since he was written around a time when sociopathic womanizers were okay to laugh at.

By the 2020s, Barney would have already gotten divorced and had his kid. Since the series takes place in 2022, we should see Barney taking care of a 2-year-old. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ellie Stinson is in the backseat, but I would still love to see the energy that single Barney had during his How I Met Your Mother days.
