The first ever trailer for the last installment of the “Fifty Shades” franchise, “Fifty Shades Free,” has been released and promises a darker and more thrilling conclusion to Anastasia Steele’s and Christian Grey’s romantic (and erotic) journey. The teaser finally gives us a glimpse of the couple’s lives now entering marriage. Usually, after a marriage, things take a normal course and you’d always expect the couple to settle down. However, in this wedding, it’s clear that new heights will be seen for the conclusion of the “Fifty Shades Trilogy.”
The past two installments of the franchise based on E.L. James’ novels have been utterly controversial ever since “Fifty Shades of Grey” hit theaters. The relationship between Anastasia and Christian have been particularly targeted, citing the romanticized BDSM to confuse it with the real thing between relationships. But despite heavy criticism, both “Fifty Shades of Grey” and “Fifty Shades Darker” went on to become smash hits both on print and on screen. The former managed to become one of the highest grossing R-rated films ever and one of the biggest films by a female director.
Adapting the action and thrill for ‘Fifty Shades Freed’
As usual, the “Fifty Shades Freed” teaser is packed with brief steamy scenes and the occasional sexual teases that made the franchise what it is, to begin with. But that’s not the only thing to be picked up from here, as we’re also seeing new aspects of Anastasia and Christian’s relationship. For one thing, there’s a scene where Anastasia discovers a gun in her drawer. We also see brief flashes where Christian is armed, seemingly in pursuit of an enemy, and a shot of Anastasia firing a gun after she’s knocked down to the ground. And to make things even more thrilling, the teaser ends with Anastasia having an unknown assailant press a knife against her—as if to hint that she will also be kidnapped.
The full trailer for “Fifty Shades Freed” will be released this November, and so the wait isn’t that long for fans eager to see what the ending of the franchise has in store for their favorite couple. It’s also worth noting that while the previous “Fifty Shades” films have been marketed as romantic films, “Freed” now has some sort of a James Bond-esque feel to it as it taps into the action thriller genre.
“Fifty Shades Freed” will premiere on February 9, 2018.
