It’s been more than 20 years since Ewan McGregor has been cast as the young version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and everyone is celebrating his return in the upcoming Kenobi series on Disney+. Just in, Disney has dropped a new featurette that has McGregor looking back at his first time as everyone’s favorite Jedi.
Watch this:
While Obi-Wan essentially takes a backseat for the scenes in Tatooine, he moves into the spotlight during the three-way duel with Maul—which McGregor excitedly talks about. We can see him pick and choose between lightsabers (one of which is Qui-Gon Jinn’s lightsaber), then we have a look at the blazing choreography training with Ray Park (Maul).
We’ve yet to get a look at the action in the upcoming Kenobi series, but Hayden Christensen has teased that they would be going back to the Prequel-era choreography. While I do have a lot of things I love about the Sequels, I really thought it was a shame that J.J. Abrams didn’t want to embrace the dazzling new lightsaber fighting style that we got in the Prequels.
With a release date set for next week, a lot of fans are wondering when we’re going to get a different look at Kenobi. If anything, this is one of the most anticipated comebacks in the franchise since Rogue One, so you can expect Lucasfilm to be pretty careful when it comes to their reveals for this show.
My guess is we’ll get a ‘what’s to come’ trailer after the premiere, kind of like how HBO does their promotions with recent shows.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 27.
