After months of waiting and anticipation, DC has finally dropped the first trailer for The Flash starring Ezra Miller—and the story looks absolutely insane.
Check out two Barry Allens, two Batmen, Supergirl, and a returning General Zod:
Here’s the official synopsis:
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The story pretty much lines up with the rumors that the movie will be rebooting the entire Snyderverse continuity, and it looks like it will be doing that by altering the events of the very first DCEU movie—Zod’s invasion of Metropolis, and the same day that the world is introduced to Superman.
Though I expect Flash to save the reality that his mother lives in, I think that he’s going to be returning to the altered DC universe where Henry Cavill isn’t Superman, and probably every other hero could be played by someone else. It’s going to be sad saying good-bye to the Snyderverse, but some think this could be the swan song that the continuity needed—especially with DC head James Gunn deciding to go a completely different direction.
The Flash finally arrives in theaters on June 16.
