Emily and Camille cheer for Gabriel and Alfie as they play football together. Camille tells Emily they seem to be getting along really well because he doesn’t invite just anybody to play with the guys. Alfie tells the girls they look like WAGs: Wives and Girlfriends of athletes. But Camille quickly tells him she’s not Gabriel’s girlfriend.
After the game, Alfie tells Emily he suddenly understands why she loves Paris so much: her friends are good people. Emily tells him they were very welcoming when she first came to Paris. He asks if something is going on with Gabriel and Camille but dismisses it for them just being French. Emily asks him if he has dinner plans. Alfie asks her if she is asking him out. He kisses her.
Emily comes into their apartment and accidentally walks in on Mindy and Benoît in bed. Feeling embarrassed, she tells Mindy she just forgot her phone charger, so she gets it and leaves. While passing the time, Emily receives a picture message from Madeline showing she’s on an airplane. Emily calls her and asks if she’s coming to Paris. Madeline tells her the Paris office is due for an executive visit from the Gilbert Group. Emily asks if Sylvie knows about the visit, but Madeline tells her they’re taking off and ends the call before she can get an answer.
Before entering Savoir’s building, Sylvie approaches Emily and tells her about a sudden travel memo from The Gilbert Group. Emily tells her she just found out about Madeline’s trip the previous night. Sylvie tells her many hours have passed since she found out, so she should have told her.
In the office, Madeline is already talking to Julien about their workspace logistics when Emily and Sylvie come in. Madeline hugs Emily and tells her she’s so chic. She then turns to Sylvie and tells her she’s happy they finally meet in person. Sylvie says it’s a shame she didn’t tell them she was coming so they could have prepared. Madeline tells her she prefers to see everyone’s business as usual. Emily tells Madeline they have a meeting with Maison Lavaux and says she’d love to observe it.
During the meeting, Madeline comments the Maison Lavaux brand has grown a lot. Savoir has been with them every step of the way.
While preparing for a gig, Mindy sees her story has spread all over the internet. She confronts Étienne over it. He tells her he only shared their picture and story with his friend, who happens to be a journalist. They talk in Mandarin. Benoît asks them what is going on. Mindy tells him his friend is a snake, while Étienne tells him his girlfriend is a billionaire.
Étienne tells Benoît that Mindy is not an average dame pipi they saved from obscurity. He tells him she comes from one of the richest families in China. Benoît asks Mindy if she’s rich. Mindy tells him it is her father who’s rich. Mindy tells him she didn’t have the heart to tell him because he built a story for them being star-crossed lovers on a starving artist‘s journey. Benoît gets upset and tells her everything they were doing was a lie. Mindy tells him it is not easy for her either. She is trying to reinvent herself in Paris, but now her story is all over the internet. She walks out. Étienne tells Benoît he knew she’d break up the band. Benoît tells him it is his fault.
While walking to the spot where Mindy plays, Madeline tells Emily that Sylvie is a piece of work. Emily tells her there’s a learning curve with Sylvie. But she emphasizes Sylvie is good at her job, saying Maison Lavaux‘s growth was all her doing. Madeline disagrees and tells Emily she saw some discrepancies in the books. She says Maison Lavaux massively grew their business, but they’re still paying Savoir the same rate when they should have doubled them already.
They arrive at the spot and see Mindy isn’t there. Emily leaves Madeline alone while she talks to Benoît and Étienne. They tell her the secret is out; they know who the real Mindy is. Emily tells them she doesn’t know what happened, but she does know Mindy cares a lot about Benoît. If she didn’t share her story, it is just because she doesn’t want to be judged, but it seems like they did anyway.
Emily runs home and comforts Mindy. She reads a news article online and tells Mindy it will be okay. Mindy tells her that her father will hate her, and Benoît thinks she’s playing him. Emily assures her she’ll get over it because she’s the best.
The next morning, Sylvie arrives at Savoir and gets surprised when she sees Madeline sitting on an exercise ball while working in her office. Madeline tells Sylvie she thinks they’re selling themselves short with Maison Lavaux still paying them the same meager fee even though they have grown a lot. Sylvie tells her she doesn’t see a problem. Antoine had an agreement with the previous owner, and they have had that partnership for a very long time already. Madeline tells her the agreement shouldn’t be in place anymore because he had it with a man, and now Savoir is being run by two strong women already. Sylvie tells her that their history matters and it shouldn’t be all about money. Madeline tells her she’ll look into it further, but Sylvie warns her that Antoine can be quite prickly. Madeline tells her she is not afraid of Antoine.
Emily says she wants to run Laboratoire Lavaux’s guest list with Sylvie. Madeline leaves them alone. Sylvie tells Emily to just get out.
At the Laboratoire’s launch, Gabriel and Camille take turns smelling their personalized scents while Emily watches. Alfie comes and smells Emily’s scent and tells her it’s intoxicating. Camille sniffs and says her scent seems obvious at first, but then there’s something unexpected under the surface.
Madeline congratulates Sylvie for a great party and tells her she hopes there’s plenty of content so she can share it with the Chicago office. Sylvie assures her there will be great photos because they have a great photographer onboard. Antoine and Catherine walk in. Antoine introduces Catherine to Madeline. Madeline says she’s from The Gilbert Group. Catherine doesn’t know about The Gilbert Group, so Madeline tells her they own Savoir. Sylvie excuses herself.
Madeline tells Antoine he’s the reason she discovered she was pregnant. She shares the story, and Antoine tells her he’s glad to be a small part of her journey. Madeline tells her she’d like to talk about something about the books while she’s there. Catherine interrupts her and says they don’t talk about business at parties in France. Madeline tells her the party is actually business. Antoine then begs her to continue talking.
Madeline tells him Antoine is severely underpaying them. She tells him Maison Lavaux is expanding, so their fees need to mirror that growth. Antoine tells her about the long-standing agreement with Savoir. He also tells her maybe Catherine is right that they should table the conversation for a more appropriate time and place. He excuses himself and leaves Catherine with Madeline.
Catherine tells Madeline the agreement: Antoine and Sylvie have been having an affair for over three years, so she never charged the full rate. She also tells her it is quite coincidental they are raising their rates now that the affair is over. She further tells Madeline she better check how much they’re paying the photographer Sylvie’s sleeping with before she comes after Maison Lavaux.
Madeline pulls Emily away from Luc and Alfie. Luc tells him he thinks he’s a good match for Emily. She deserves a nice guy after all the drama with the chef. Realizing that Alfie doesn’t know about Emily and Gabriel’s history, Luc quickly walks away from Alfie and claims his English is not that good, and he doesn’t know what he’s saying.
Madeline tells Emily she thinks Sylvie shouldn’t be working at the firm after what she’s discovered about her. Emily tells her not to jump the gun. Madeline says she will need more intel. She worries Gilbert Group might have bought a company that has cooked its books. Emily urges her to take it slowly. Madeline sees concern on her face. She assures Emily she will take care of her no matter what.
While drinking alone at the apartment, Mindy receives a message from Étienne. He says he’s sorry for everything, and Benoît has finished writing their song. She cries while listening to it.
Alfie confronts Emily about Gabriel and asks her to tell the truth. She tells him she and Gabriel had a moment, but it was over before it even began. Alfie tells her she better be sure because the way he feels about her is real. She kisses him and assures him that whatever happened with Gabriel is nothing.
Our Thoughts
Awwww. Alfie is really falling in love with Emily. We hope they truly end up with each other. We don’t want to see either of them getting hurt, really. Camille and Gabriel look like they might be getting back together soon, so if that’s the case, it will be all’s well that ends well. Oops. Sorry, don’t count Mindy in — things are awful for her lately, both for her career and her love life. It’s just sad!
Anyway, Madeline seems to be serious about coming after Sylvie and her affairs. She might be throwing her out. We hate to admit it, but Sylvie has grown on us quite a bit, and the office will not be so fun without her quirks. I guess we’ll just have to see what Madeline is planning.
