Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 4 Recap – A Kiss Is Just a Kiss

Emily is trying to buy flowers. She finds it difficult to communicate with the florist, who does not give her the flowers she wants. Seeing this, Camille, a French woman who happens to pass by, helps Emily. The two talk for a while. Camille invites Emily to an opening of an art gallery she works for — Randy Zimmer, a hotel owner, will be there. Emily and Camille accidentally kiss each other on the lips while saying goodbye. This surprises Emily, but Camille is just casual about it.
Back at her apartment, the landlady tells Emily her packages have arrived. Emily asks for help to bring the boxes upstairs, but the landlady is too busy to help her. Gabriel sees her trying to carry the heavy boxes alone, so he helps her. While unloading the boxes, Gabriel sees the box of lingerie.
Disappointed that her box of peanut butter was all messed up, Emily ends up in Gabriel’s unit, where he cooks her an omelet. Gabriel asks further about the lingerie. Emily tells him it is a gift, and she’s bothered by it.
Upon arriving at the office, Emily hears Antoine and Sylvie having an argument where Antoine threatens to see other agencies. Emily comes in and tells Sylvie she’s meeting Randy Zimmer later that night, pretending it is Sylvie’s idea to see Randy for the promotion of Maison Lavaux. This makes Antoine happy and ends the argument. Before Emily leaves the room, she gives the roses to Sylvie.
Later, Sylvie slams the roses on Emily’s desk, saying she doesn’t need to be rescued. She also asks about the gift from La Perla again; Emily lies and tells her it’s from Gabriel. Julien and Luc take Emily to lunch and tell her she should stay away from Sylvie and Antoine. They also tell her La Perla is Antoine’s go-to place for lingerie. This means they all suspect the box is from Antoine and not Gabriel.
Emily takes Mindy to the gallery opening, where she finally meets Randy. She makes her pitch about a signature scent for his hotels. Randy agrees to a meeting at Savoir.
The next day, Randy meets with Antoine, Sylvie, and the rest of the team. Randy seems to like Antoine’s scents, but he tells them he’s leaving the next day, so he can’t decide just yet. Emily then proposes dinner later that night, so they can continue talking. While trying to get a reservation, Antoine approaches Emily and asks her if she likes the gift. She tells him she finds it inappropriate. He tells her he bought it for her, not for him, but apologizes if he overstepped her boundaries. Sylvie interrupts and instructs Emily to make a reservation at the Grand Vèfour, a challenging place to get a reservation in.
Forgetting the date format, Emily thinks she got a reservation at the Grand Vèfour. But upon arriving there, she finds out she booked for November 8 (11/08) and not for August 11 (08/11). She calls Gabriel for a favor; the group dines at the restaurant where Gabriel works instead.
While having dinner, Savoir closes a deal for Maison Lavaux with Randy, making everyone happy. Emily introduces Gabriel to the group. He receives compliments for how great the food is. Sylvie commends Emily for a job well done and invites Emily to have drinks, but she thinks Emily is better off staying with Gabriel. Emily goes back in and gives Gabriel a passionate kiss. Once outside, she’s taken aback to see Antoine and Sylvie kissing by a tree.
She intends to go back in, but Camille walks by. Emily tells her she just had dinner with Randy Zimmer and tells her the food in the restaurant is amazing. Camille tells her the chef is her boyfriend. As they talk, Gabriel comes out and asks them if they know each other. Surprised, Emily tells him they do know each other. Camille kisses Gabriel.
Our Thoughts
In this episode, we see Emily is really flexible and positive; it’s tough to bring her down. We’re delighted to see Emily finally pleasing Sylvie, and she’s doing great at her job despite the challenges. But just as we thought we’ll be seeing more of her and Gabriel, we’re disappointed to discover he has a girlfriend, and a very likable one at that. We know if Emily pursues Gabriel, it would mean she’d have to betray Camille — one of her few friends in Paris. As they say, you can’t have it all. She has a tough decision to make, and we’re excited to see how everything will turn out.
