Back from her routine morning jog, Emily bangs the wrong door again. Gabriel opens the door, and the two have a pretty fun conversation. Gabriel asks Emily if she wants to live in his apartment — a bit flirty. When Emily promises not to bang on his door again, he responds with a playful invitation to “bang” anytime.
As she steps out of her apartment building, Emily steps on dog poop. Disgusted, she decides to take a picture of the dog and its owner and posts it on social media with the hashtag #mindthemerde. Upon posting this, she notices her followers are increasing. She’s starting to build a following.
Julien greets her when she arrives at the office, “Bonjour, la plouc!” She answers, “Go fuck yourself,” in French through a phone translator. This delights Julien, and he finally thinks he’s starting to like Emily.
Emily comes to Sylvie’s office with her thoughts on Savoir’s marketing plan for De L’Heure, the new perfume being launched by Maison Lavaux, a company owned by Antoine Lambert. Emily tells Sylvie she thinks the marketing plan is weak. Sylvie then blatantly tells Emily she doesn’t like Emily’s approach. She thinks Emily’s style is not fit for the luxury brands they represent. Emily then tells her she’s correct, but this makes her understand the customers more and gives her a unique perspective far from Sylvie’s. Sylvie seems convinced and invites Emily to come to the launch party that night.
Emily arrives at the venue. Sylvie approaches her. Then Paul with Antoine and his wife, Catherine, come shortly after. Catherine asks what brings Emily to Paris. She tells them she’s there to bring an American perspective to Savoir. This piques Antoine’s interest and asks her to elaborate. She then says she thinks they can do a lot more on social media and how they did a very successful campaign in the U.S. Meanwhile, Sylvie and Paul share a disapproving look; they don’t like the fact Emily talks about work while at a party.
After a while, Emily adores the Eiffel Tower from the party venue. Antoine approaches her and notices she isn’t wearing the perfume. He proceeds to spritz some on her pulse and asks her to put some behind her ear. Antoine leans closer as he sniffs the perfume. He tells her wearing perfume is like wearing beautiful lingerie, making a person sexier and happier. He also tells her that perfumes can also become an aphrodisiac with the right chemistry. Emily then tells him she’ll keep those things in mind for their marketing campaign. Antoine doesn’t stop getting personal with Emily. He tells her he needs to find herself a French boyfriend. As he prepares to leave, Antoine goes cheek-to-cheek with Emily, sniffing the perfume on her closely for the last time. From a distance, Sylvie sees all of it, visibly displeased.
Back at the office the next day, Paul tells Emily she impressed Antoine, and he likes her to be on Maison Lavaux’s account. Sylvie interjects and reminds him Emily’s supposed to work on Vaga-Jeune, a female suppository promoting vaginal wetness in older women. After Paul leaves, Sylvie confronts Emily, telling her she seemed too friendly with Antoine. Emily disagrees and lets her know she doesn’t want anything to do with married men. Later, Julien tells Emily that Sylvie is Antoine’s mistress, which explains why she doesn’t like her to get too friendly with him. Confused by what she just discovered, she asks Mindy to have dinner with her so that she can ask her about French mistresses.
While walking to the restaurant, Mindy tells Emily having a mistress is tolerated in France, and Antoine’s wife probably approves of Sylvie as his mistress.
They arrive at the restaurant, and while waiting for their food, Emily learns Mindy is in Paris because she wants to lead a new life far from China, where her father is an influential businessman who likes her to take over their business. Their food arrives. Emily asks the waiter to take it back; it’s not cooked the way she likes. She asks for the chef and is surprised to see Gabriel.
Doug is supposed to come to Paris the next day, so Emily goes to the market to buy ingredients so that she can cook for him. Doug calls Emily and tells her he’s not coming anymore. He thinks he’ll just be bored in Paris while Emily’s at work. He also tells her he likes their life in Chicago, and he doesn’t know how to do long-distance. He asks Emily to come home instead. This enrages Emily, who prompts their breakup.
The next day, a sad Emily arrives at work and sees Vaga-Jeune boxes on her desk. Perusing the product, she decides to write some material and translate the word ‘vagina’ into French. She’s taken aback by the fact it’s translated as “le vagin” rather than “la vagin,” making the vagina masculine. After speaking with Sylvie, Emily takes a snapshot of Vaga-Jeune and publishes it on social media with the caption “Le vagin n’est pas masculin!”. The latter confirms the vagina is indeed masculine.
Meanwhile, Brigitte Macron, the wife of France’s president, sees Emily’s post and retweets it. This pleases Paul, who sees Emily pass by the restaurant they’re in. He asks Emily to join them. Sylvie then proposes a toast to their own American, Vaga-Jeune.
Our Thoughts
Finally, we see the team at Savoir give Emily the chance to prove herself. We also see Emily loosening up a bit by forming a friendship with Mindy and letting go of his relationship in Chicago. We’re excited to see if this means Gabriel and Emily will be a thing! More importantly, we look forward to seeing if Emily can keep the momentum and please Savoir as she continues to work with them.
