[SPOILERS FOR DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS]
As predicted, Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch ended up being the main villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but even if we saw her take down that temple of the Darkhold, some fans are hoping that we’ll still see more of Wanda down the line.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Elizabeth Olsen has teased that she could return in some way. She explains, “She can never go away, I don’t think… Especially with the Multiverse. But I don’t know. I think she’s aware of what she’s done, but no – I don’t think she’s gone.”
Like it always is with comic book films, until we see a dead body and the actor officially announces the end of their run, the character could very much make a comeback. I mean, if Bucky was able to do it, why not one of the most powerful characters in the MCU?
Despite Wanda’s villainous turn in the sequel, Olsen says she was pretty pleased with the direction her character went. She tells Hollywood Life:
“My goal is to always have her have some sort of evolution, and the evolution in this for me was really empowering… She has a new kind of confidence that we haven’t seen in 8 years, and she’s really not apologizing for anything. She feels very clear in her beliefs. I find it very admirable, and I enjoyed throwing her into this journey of madness. I think it’s okay to play characters that people get frustrated with sometimes.”
With an Agatha Harkness series said to be in the works, and America Chavez staying in the MCU, there are definitely more chances for some version of the Scarlet Witch to return. I just hope it’s involved with something more significant in the future—like the introduction of mutants in the MCU.
It’s just a pitch.
Catch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now in theaters.
