British Director Edgar Wright confirms that the first draft for the sequel to his 2017 action-musical movie Baby Driver “exists.”
In an interview with Empire, Wright says that the sequel will introduce new characters after killing off several of them in the first movie. He also adds that the draft “takes the story further.”
Wright talked about having a sequel to the movie shortly after its release further back. In a previous interview with Empire in July 2017, he said that he recognized the potential the film had to keep it going. Wright added that the movie has “somewhere more to go” with its characters. The main character, Baby (Ansel Elgort), could be overturned in a way that he is no longer just the apprentice anymore. Wright said it was possible to fit in a certain deleted scene of the first movie to the sequel.
Baby Driver was released June 2017. It starred Ansel Elgort alongside Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Lily James, and Jamie Foxx. Academy Award Winning Composer Steven Price wrote the movie’s score. Baby Driver was Wright’s passion project for over two decades. It was well received by critics and earned more than $226 million in the box office.
While the sequel is still under wraps, the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director reveals details to his newest project. He describes it as a “straight-up psychological thriller.” He references movies such as Nicolas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion as his inspiration. The film will be set in London with a female lead. The screenplay was co-written by Penny Dreadful writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns and will be shot this summer.
