After A Song of Ice and Fire comes an adaptation of Fire and Blood. House of the Dragon is set to hit HBO Max this August, and we have a new trailer featuring the ancient Targaryens and the other influential houses in old Westeros.
Watch this:
Though previous teasers had shown the Targaryens in the spotlight, this new preview actually gives us a look at the other players in the show. Rhys Ifans is playing Otto Hightower who is the Hand of the King during this time, and his daughter Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) seems to have a close relationship with the Targaryen princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).
The series also gives us a look at House Velaryon, who are said to be distant cousins of the Targaryens—hence the clan sporting the signature silver hair that the dragon riders wear.
No doubt the series will also be taking us to classic locales like the Red Keep and maybe even The Wall. It would be great if we managed to take a look at Harrenhall before it became the burnt down wreck that we see in Game of Thrones.
While I would have loved to watch the series move forward, I think this would be a great spinoff for Thrones. Besides Kit Harington is set to come back in his own sequel series, so until we get an update on that , HOTD is going to be providing fans with their Westeros kick in the meantime.
Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon premieres on HBO Max on Aug. 21.
