Where are we going? To the big screen, this time! “Dora the Explorer” is a kid’s show that one would think to always stay that way, and keep on educating kids with navigating their way through dangerous jungles and the occasional duolingo-esque Spanish class session. However, fans (should we even call them that?) of the show are in for a big treat as Paramount Pictures has greenlit the development of a live-action movie for Dora and her friends. And not only that, “Transformers” franchise visionary and director Michael Bay is set to produce.
“Dora the Explorer” was a hit children’s show on Nickelodeon and ran from 2000-2014. The story follows a young Hispanic girl who goes on different adventures with her pet monkey, Boots. Together they faced a number of obstacles and even went head-to-head with Swiper the Fox, the show’s main antagonist.
‘Dora the Explorer’ comes to the big screen
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Dora the Explorer” movie has been in development since 2015. Back then, Tom Wheeler (Puss In Boots) was writing the screenplay with Mary Parent producing. However, “The Muppets” and “Neighbors” writer-director Nick Stoller will now work on the script, with Bay’s Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller co-producing.
As for the film’s details, little is known except for its basic premise. Instead of Dora being a 7-year-old explorer, the story will follow her as a teenager as she moves to the big city with her cousin Diego. Actors haven’t been confirmed yet, but we can expect further details in the coming weeks ahead.
With Michael Bay set to produce, one can’t help but wonder how this would work out in terms of story and effects. Will it be an action-adventure film? Will it be similar to Bay’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” remake? It might sound odd, especially without a director announced yet, but it looks like this is going to be a kick-ass “Dora the Explorer” movie.
“Dora the Explorer” is slated for a 2019 release.
