Donald Glover Will Bring Deadpool Animated Series To Life

Prepare for some fourth-wall breaking shenanigans. The Merc with the Mouth is back with a new “Deadpool” animated series created, produced and written by Donald Glover and Stephen Glover. FXX ordered 10 episodes from the brothers to air sometime in 2018. No word on the series’ official name or cast yet. But, considering the success of the “Deadpool”  movie and the character’s popularity, we’re already anticipating his shenanigans.

The unnamed “Deadpool” series is a collaborative effort by Marvel Television, FX Productions, and ABC Signature Studios. Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory, who previously worked together on the 2006 series Heroes, serve as the project’s executive producers.

“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald, and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth. We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with ‘Legion’ continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation,” Loeb said.

FXX to debut more animated shows

FX head John Landgraf stated in 2016 that their sister channel FXX would be “aggressively” moving into more animated series. He mentioned Adult Swim’s sci-fi sitcom Rick and Morty’s popularity as an example to live up to. A “Deadpool” series seems like a perfect fit for what the FXX is aiming for. The comic book shenanigans of our favorite sarcastic, raunchy, mouthy, R-rated mutant will provide endless source material for Donald and Stephen Glover.

Donald Glover in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Glover already has a connection to FXX’s sister channel FX with his Golden Globe-winning series Atlanta. His prominent role in the animated series is a stroke of genius. The actor, who is a recording artist known under the stage name Childish Gambino, is also a huge fan of superhero comics.

The love goes both ways. Miles Morales, an alternate version of Spider-Man chosen as Peter Parker’s replacement, actually drew inspiration from Glover. The actor even went on to voice Miles in Disney XD’s Ultimate Spiderman. The connection was strong enough that there was a movement several years back to have Glover play as Peter Parker when the casting call went out for The Amazing Spider-Man.

That petition didn’t pan out but now, years later, Glover will appear in a live action Spiderman movie after all. The trailer of Spider-Man: Homecoming confirmed him in an undisclosed role. The short glimpse teases Glover as a potential villain, standing behind a man with explosives.
