It’s time to dodge some wrenches – or balls. Ben Stiller recently reunited the cast of “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” for a video promoting his charity, The Stiller Foundation. Stiller worked together with nonprofit Omaze to produce the video, which features him reprising his role as White Goodman.
In his Goodman persona and dressed in Purple Cobra gear, Stiller insults viewers for their lack of fitness. Then he offers people a once-in-a-lifetime experience to play dodgeball against him. But before he can wind up to his full spiel, Vince Vaughn, Justin Long, and Christine Taylor appear. The Average Joe’s (plus one) give viewers the choice to pick their team over Goodman’s. After a brief showdown where the teams keep insulting each other, Stiller tosses a wrench at Long while he’s distracted. Then he and Vaughn give viewers a choice between their two teams.
Ben Stiller Wants YOU to Join Him
As a member of Team Globo Gym or Team Average Joe’s, you get some major perks. Omaze’s website promises players a custom dodgeball jersey and a photo together with their chosen teams. Then apparently Stiller will treat both winners and losers to pizza after the game. The winner and their two guests will also get flown out and put up in a 4-star hotel, Omaze’s treat.
Entrants can increase their chances to play in the dodgeball game by donating between $10 and $5,000. $10 equates to one entry. Each entry increases their chances of getting chosen. Enough entries also unlock perks like autographed items and props used in the film, including gear, scripts, and dodgeballs.
Stiller Foundations works with nonprofit organization Omaze
All proceedings from the Dodgeball charity event go to the Stiller Foundation. Founded in 2010 by Ben Stiller, his organization aims to provide educational opportunities to children worldwide. Charity fundraising organization Omaze teamed up with Stiller to create his Dodgeball video and will also host the event in Fall 2017.
Stiller’s no-holds-barred Dodgeball showdown event is par-for-course for Omaze, which has helped arrange charity events for other celebrities and movies. Other causes they’ve worked with include Charlize Theron’s Africa Outreach Project, the Clinton Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. In previous years, Omaze also set up red carpet premieres for Marvel movies and walk-in roles in the Star Wars franchise.
