Disney Hands Over 'Star Wars' Series To Jon Favreau To EP And Write

Jon Favreau is having his dreams come true. Lucasfilm announced that the award-laden actor-producer is on board to produce and write another live-action “Star Wars” series for Disney’s upcoming streaming video service.
Favreau has been an avid fan of the series for quite a while now. In a statement to Deadline, Favreau said, “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark on this exciting adventure.”
Incidentally, Favreau also voiced Pre Vizsla in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and is also going to have a short cameo in the upcoming “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

You can’t go wrong with Favreau and Star Wars together

Disney wasn’t just looking at the man’s “Star Wars” background. Favreau’s most notable directing works are “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” and the “Jungle Book.” He is an executive producer for the movies “The Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Iron Man 3.” With Disney’s plans of pulling other content like Marvel and Star Wars movies from Netflix in the next year, it seems that they’ve chosen the right man. Currently, Favreau is working on the live-action of “Lion King” set for release in 2019.
“Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said. “This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
Disney’s new streaming service has no official release date yet. But, last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger said in an earnings call that the “Star Wars” series would likely be out in 2020. Not much is known about Disney’s new big project. But, Iger has been teasing the world that four to five original series and original movies are front-lining the project. Other projects Disney is planning for is a live-action Marvel TV series and a reboot of “The Muppets.”
