Disney Star David Henrie Apologizes After Arrest For Possession of Firearms at LAX

David Henrie, star of Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, apologized after his arrest for possession of a loaded handgun at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Henrie “takes responsibility” for the incident in a post on Twitter, saying that he “unintentionally” brought his gun which he legally owns and is registered under his name.

He adds that he was “humiliated and embarrassed” by the incident, writing that he is “appreciative of TSA’s efforts in implementing the safety laws that are in place to protect our beautiful country.” Henrie also adds that he is “thankful to the TSA, LAPD and all involved today for their kindness and their professionalism during the process.”

According to ET, the LAX public information office confirmed Henrie’s arrest at around 9:05 a.m. on Monday. Airport officials noticed a loaded M&P Shield 9mm pistol in his baggage during a TSA screening and were immediately detained and taken to the nearest police station.

Henrie, who is most known for his role Justin Russo in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place,  starred alongside Selena Gomez in the show where the family of wizards had to master their newly learned powers. Henrie also stars in How I Met Your Mother as Luke Mosby.

The actor is not the first from the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place to have a run-in with the law, though. Jake Austin, who plays Justin’s brother, Max, was charged with a hit and run back in 2013 and was given a not guilty verdict.

Henrie is set to make his directorial debut with the coming-of-age movieThis Is The Year, which follows the story of a band of teenagers embarking on a road trip to a music festival. Henrie also co-wrote the screenplay, describing it as a “heartfelt and fun movie” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
