Teamwork
The train’s interiors get covered with flesh and threaten the passengers’ lives. Tanjiro tells Inosuke about the whole situation, so the boar-man is vindicated in his desire to defeat the train.
Inosuke goes inside and uses Beast Breath, Fifth Form: Crazy Cutting to cut through the tendrils of flesh attacking the sleeping passengers. He then yells at how he’s superior to the monster train.
Tanjiro wants to head for the demon’s weakness as Enmu’s flesh mutation engulfs the train. Cutting up the bits and pieces of flesh doesn’t seem effective because Enmu can still regenerate his own body.
Nezuko sees the flesh spread and starts fighting, protecting the passengers and cutting up the regenerating flesh. Suddenly, a flash of lightning spreads across the train cars. Zenitsu speeds in to save Nezuko from the flesh attacks using Thunder Breathing, First Form: Thunderclap and Flash.
Zenitsu darts around the cars for six slashes to save Nezuko while still remaining asleep.
Tanjiro realizes his efforts aren’t working as well as he likes.
Flame Hashira
Meanwhile, Kyojuro finally wakes up. He expresses embarrassment at being caught in a dream despite being a noble Hashira. He uses his technique and burns up the interior and exterior of Enmu’s invasion. The demon feels the impact this time.
Kyojuro then finds Tanjiro and tells him it will take time for the enemy to regenerate. The Hashira instructs him to go along with Inosuke to find the train’s head while he and the others protect the remaining cars. No matter what form a demon possesses, it still has a head somewhere. Kyojuro leaves in a flash; Tanjiro admires the Hashira’s speed and quick thinking.
Tanjiro finds Inosuke running on the roofs, also following Kyojuro’s orders. Despite his annoyance at being told what to do, he can’t help but follow their awesome leader.
Inosuke claims to have already found the enemy’s weak spot on the first car and is loading up his technique. The enemy’s weakness is near the engine. Tanjiro plans to strike at the same time as his friend.
Inosuke slices open the engine’s roof and finds the demon‘s weakest spot, but Enmu’s limbs emerge to stop him. Tanjiro arrives and cuts them off with the circling slash of Water Breathing, Sixth Form: Whirlpool.
Enmu’s scream of pain reverberates across the whole train. Tanjiro senses the weakness right beneath their feet. Inosuke cuts through the metal flooring to expose Enmu’s neck and spinal column.
The Head
Tanjiro slashes through it, but a column of flesh regenerates to throw them off, and a large wall of flesh envelops the neck to form a basin. Tanjiro’s strike wasn’t enough. He asks Inosuke to strike together while synchronizing their breathing techniques, where one will strike the flesh while another severs the bone.
Inosuke agrees. They’re about to strike when Enmu unleashes his dreams yet again. Tanjiro sleeps and wakes up repeatedly. He almost cuts off his own neck in the real world when Inosuke saves him.
The train engineer tries to stab Inosuke, but Tanjiro takes the hit to the gut. They have to cut off the head soon. Enmu forms a dome of limbs around them which they have to cut through continually.
They coordinate their breathing to push through the demon’s defenses. Inosuke cuts through the flesh with Beast Form while Tanjiro follows with his father’s technique: Hinokami Kagura: Clear Blue Sky.
Enmu’s head gets cut off, and the train falls off the tracks.
Our Thoughts
I love the teamwork in this episode and how efficient the action beats are. 3.8/5.
