Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 1 Episode 6 – Swordsman Accompanying a Demon

Uniform

Tanjiro dons his uniform for the first time, and his master approves. Nezuko slips in to take a peek.

Before he starts his first mission, his master offers more advice. The uniform has defensive properties that can protect him from sharp objects and extreme temperatures. His katana can change color depending on the one wielding it, with each color having special properties. A black blade however is unusual, so he doesn’t know what it can do.

Master Urokodaki also gives him a sturdy and lightweight box where Nezuko can fit inside. He promises that, from now on, they’ll always be together.

Before parting, Master Urokodaki tightens his collar and pats him on the shoulders.

On the road, he asks his sister if she’s okay. She’s sleeping again to regain her energy as she doesn’t eat humans.

The Town

Tanjiro reaches the northeastern town. On the road, he finds a man distressed and bruised; her spouse has been missing for days. The people are worried. Tanjiro approaches him, and the man, Mr. Kazumi, takes Tanjiro to the place where she was abducted.

Tanjiro immediately smells the remnants of the demon’s visit. Something feels very wrong.

Mr. Kazumi remembers the beating he got from the girl’s parents. He follows Tanjiro as the latter tracks the demon’s scent. They keep searching until night falls. Kazumi feels worried and asks if they can continue tomorrow, but Tanjiro says the demons must be close.

In a house nearby, a girl takes a walk along the hallway when a shadowy blob follows her from the floor. The girl steps into her room and changes out of her kimono to sleep. The shadowy blob grows and slowly spreads out from under her futon.

Two arms emerge out of the shadow, and they grab her by the mouth. Her screams are muffled as she’s is dragged into the shadow.

Confrontation

A spike in the demon’s scent alerts Tanjiro, and he sprints in its direction. When he finally reaches the place, he takes out his sword. He can smell the demon and the girl, but they are nowhere to be found.

Tanjiro finds the demon’s position and stabs his sword downward. He is dragged down by the demon, but he is able to snatch the girl away from it as well. This is it: his first powerful enemy who can cast spells.

Tanjiro asks the demon where the other girls are. He gets nothing but the sound of seething rage. He asks Kazumi to carry the girl while he hunts down the demon. It can hide on the floor and the wall.

He knows the demon there the scent hasn’t vanished. It goes out to attack, but now, three of them are moving towards Tanjiro from multiple directions. Tanjiro uses the Eight Form to create a torrenting slash.

The First

Tanjiro then remembers Urokodaki’s words about a demon who can use his blood to change humans into demons. That demon was the first to turn into one a thousand years ago. If there’s any way to turn Nezuko back into normal, he should be the one to know. His name is Muzan Kibutsuji.

The Eight form hits, but it’s not enough to defeat the demon. He hits it again from the ground, but the slash isn’t strong enough. He has to do his best so that he can protect his companions

The demon yells at him, saying the girl’s flesh won’t be fresh anymore. Another one of them comes out and says they’ll be delicious regardless.

Kazumi begs them to bring back Satoko. The demon shows him his collection of hairpins, and Satoko’s ribbon is among them.

A sense of dread and anger fills Tanjiro. As he fights, Nezuko comes out to join him. The enemy is confused as to why a human and demon are working together.

Our Thoughts:

Great episode that shows our hero’s first test as a demon slayer corps. We get some horror tropes as well which is cool. I rate this episode 3.4/5
