Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 1 Episode 19 Recap – Hinokami

Rescue

Tanjiro’s blade breaks from Rui’s thread. He can’t believe it.

Inosuke is nursing his wounds, totally amazed at the gap between him and Giyu’s sword skill. Giyu turns his back, but Inosuke challenges him to a duel.

Giyu tells him to keep training. The one he defeated was not from the Twelve Moons. In a split second, Giyu ties up Inosuke to a tree and goes his way, saying that he should sit still from his wounds.

 
Back at the spider’s hut, Zenitsu is saved by Shinobu. He sees his life flash before him and remembers his master. Shinobu takes a vial and administers an antidote to Zenitsu, praising him for slowing his breathing.

Down below, a rescue team arrives to help the wounded and dead.

Tanjiro braces himself to fight Rui. It seems the boy is stronger than the Dad demon. Tanjiro does his best to dodge his threads. Rui still wants him to take back what he said before.

True Bond

The demon unleashes a multi spider web attack with no possible exits. Rui is shocked when Nezuko comes out of the box to receive the hit.

Rui’s sister is surprised by Nezuko coming out to save his brother. Rui can’t believe it as he realizes the two are siblings, and he is jealous of their bond.

Her sister pleads to Rui not to give up, but Rui silences her and slices her into pieces. He regards her as a failure, and she asks how she can make up for it for him. Rui tells his sister to kill the others in the mountain.

Rui then asks Tanjiro to come out and talk. He feels inspired as he sees the bond between them. Rui wants to have it for himself, and he asks for Nezuko to be his sister.

Tanjiro refuses him, but Rui insists, saying he’ll do it himself. Tanjiro calls him out for not understanding a real bond between family. He stands up and declares he can never have Nezuko.

Real Twelve Moons

Rui reveals his left eye signifying his rank among the Twelve Moons. He created his own family himself by giving duties to each member.

Tanjiro ponders his mode of attack while Rui ties Nezuko up and pulls her to him.

Nezuko swipes at Rui, but he doesn’t flinch. He dangles Nezuko up the treeline while her body bleeds from the threads.

Tanjiro runs in to save her, but he can’t go through. Rui approaches him, but Tanjiro’s broken sword can’t even touch his neck. His body is thicker than any of his threads.

Nezuko struggles above while Tanjiro finds a way to fight back. Rui asks her to be quiet and tightens his threads around her, letting her bleed more.

Charge

She sleeps to preserve her energy while Tanjiro braces for his ultimate technique. Breath of Water Tenth Form can cut the threads. Tanjiro inches closer, but Rui infuses his threads with his blood and compresses a web against Tanjiro. There’s no way to escape.

Tanjiro’s life flashes before him. He remembers his dad when he was younger. His father tells him to breathe and consolidate his breath to be the God of Fire.

God of Fire

He remembers witnessing his father perform a ritual dance to the God of Fire for peace and protection. His dad wasn’t strong, but he could dance for longer in the snow due to his breathing technique. It is a skill that’s passed down from generation to generation.

Tanjiro uses the fire technique and severs the magic threads. His sword glows with fire, severing the bloody threads. Tanjiro sees the opening thread. Nezuko hears her mother’s words for her to help her brother. She throws her demon art to Rui, burning the threads. Tanjiro’s blade combines with her blood, and he manages to cut off Rui’s head.

Our Thoughts

Now I realize why this was the most hyped-up episode of the season. Truly an amazing spectacle that we haven’t seen before. I rate this 5 out of 5.
