Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 1 Episode 11 Recap – Tsuzumi Mansion

Proposal

Tanjiro’s crow directs him to a southeastern town for the next mission.

On the road, he meets the yellow-haired boy from the final selection. The boy is sobbing and begging a young lady for something.

The boy’s messenger sparrow explains to Tanjiro. He then proceeds to pull the boy away and apologize to the lady.

The yellow-haired boy says they’re about to get married, but the girl says she’s already engaged, and she only went there to help him when he looked like he was dying.

The boy cries again as Tanjiro looks at him with pity. The boy says he’s weak and is about to get killed in his next task, so he has to get married. He introduces himself as Zenitsu.

A Coward?

Tanjiro asks him why he came into his job if he’s afraid of death. Zenitsu said he was conned by an old man and was lucky he survived the Final Selection. He appears to be a coward who only whines.

Once he calms down, they walk together and share an onigiri. The crow then asks them to move quickly to their destination.

Tanjiro quickens his pace as he hears the scent of blood getting stronger. Zenitsu, on the other hand, hears a strange sound.

They find a boy and a girl outside a hut who looks terrified. They explain that the house is haunted and that a monster took their brother inside.

Tanjiro praises them for bravely following their brother. He assures them that they’ll rescue him.

Zenitsu gets increasingly worried from the sound inside. The sound of an ominous drum beat.

Haunted House

Suddenly a body falls from the window to the ground. It’s one of the monster’s victims, and he dies shortly after.

Then a loud roaring sound reverberates from the house, followed by a beat.

Tanjiro learns that it’s not the two kids’ sibling but a different victim. He pays respects to the dead before inviting Zenitsu to join the rescue, and he follows with hesitation.

Tanjiro then leaves the box near the two kids, promising that what’s inside will protect them.

They enter the house and investigate. Zenitsu is crying and cowering, even more so when he learns Tanjiro is still injured from a previous battle. Zenitsu panics and thinks he’ll die for sure.

The two kids suddenly come in, saying they were afraid of the rattling box. The whole building shakes, and the party becomes separated.

Moving Spaces

Tanjiro is with the girl while Zenitsu is with the other. As the drums make a sound, their location inside the building changes.

Tanjiro finds a giant demon walking through the hallway. He tells the girl to sit still and not make a sound.

Meanwhile, Zenitsu is panicking as they lose Tanjiro. He wants to escape. The boy with him thinks it’s embarrassing, saying that he shouldn’t act that way with a katana on his waist. Zenitsu drags him outside to seek help, but the exit has changed. They look around in the rooms but instead find a boy with a boar for a head.

Zenitsu screams while the boar man escapes.

Intruders

Tanjiro prepares to fight the demon while it grumbles about his lost prey. The intruders piss the monster in his home, and Tanjiro introduces himself and goes in for an attack.

The demon hits his drum, and gravity changes inside the room, turning the walls into a floor and toppling him over.

Tanjiro then hears another scent; the boar boy comes in from the walls carrying dual Nichirin Blades. He seems to be going after the demon as well.

Our Thoughts

We were introduced to two fascinating characters. A seemingly whiny coward who somehow passed the selection and a savage beast in the literal sense of the world. Was this possibly the fifth candidate who passed the selection from episodes ago? I rate this 3.5/5.
