Negasonic Teenage Warhead lands herself a spot on Fox’s horror drama series “The Exorcist,” based on the 1973 film. Brianna Hildebrand, who fans know as the sarcastic teenage mutant on “Deadpool,” will star opposite John Cho in Season 2. They are the first new regulars to be added to the cast, following a huge series overhaul.
With the departure of the Rance family, the addition of Cho and Hildebrand promises exciting new dynamics in the series. Fans expect Hildebrand and Cho to be officially introduced at “The Exorcist” panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Hildebrand To Play Cho’s Daughter
Season 2 of “The Exorcist” continues to follow three Catholic priests as they seek out possession cases and evil forces. Well, only two priests now, since Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) has been excommunicated from the church. While Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan) carries out some detective work in the Vatican, the others hit the road. Marcus and Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) eventually learn of a powerful spirit haunting a child on the west coast.
Cho takes on the role of Andrew Kim, a child psychologist and the foster father of the affected child. He owns a private island off the coast of Seattle – perfect for a haunting. According to Deadline, Hildebrand plays Verity, the oldest of Kim’s five foster children. Despite her uncaring demeanor, Verity reveals herself to be very protective of her family. It will be interesting to see how their dynamic plays out as Season 2 develops.
More Details On ‘The Exorcist’ Season 2
A month after Fox renewed “The Exorcist,” the network once again surprised fans by announcing a shake-up in the cast. Season 1 regulars Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Hannah Kasulka and Brianne Howey—the Rance family—would not be the focus of Season 2. Instead, the new season features the three priests tackling a new possession case.
In another interview with Deadline, creator Jeremy Slater went into the decision to have a fresh, new cast. He explained that they wanted to focus on the dynamic between Father Tomas and Marcus, which serves as the heart of the show. Slater also promised “a new storyline that is just as exciting and emotionally gripping” as the first season. The additions of Cho and Hildebrand point to a new take on family dynamics previously explored through the Rances.
“The Exorcist” premieres Friday, September 29 at 9/8c on Fox.
