After all the drama surrounding the production of “Deadpool 2,” it’s finally set on stone, with Josh Brolin confirmed to play Cable, “Deadpool’s” trusty partner in the “X-Men” universe. While it’s obvious that 20th Century Fox is coming up a massive shared world for the “X-Men” and all the related characters, it’s still amazing to think that the “New Mutants,” “Deadpool,” and the “X-Force” will be coming together sooner or later. With this in mind, it has been confirmed by insiders that certain members of the “X-Force” will be introduced in “Deadpool 2” via a post-credits scene.
Setting Up X-Force The Deadpool Way
According to ComicBook.com, “Deadpool 2” will be featuring 3 different mutants of the “X-Force” before they even show up in their own upcoming movie. Their sources also say that Fox is currently casting the roles of Sunspot, Feral and Shatterstar. Here is a brief description of the three characters:
Sunspot’s real name is Roberto DaCosta. Sunspot is a mutant character who first manifested his powers at the age of 14 when he was playing in his championship soccer match for his school team in Rio de Janeiro. In doing so, he realized he can become cloaked in darkness which was done in an effort to stop a bully. Absorbing all of the light increases his physical strength.
Feral’s real name is Maria Callasantos, and is the sister of Thornn who first appeared in New Mutants #99 in March of 1991. The cat-like mutant has a feline appearance, enhanced senses and agility, an impressive healing factor, sharp claws, fangs, and a prehensile tail. She has a lot in common with a really mean cat.
Shatterstar’s real name is Gaveedra Seven. He has existed in Marvel Comics under several aliases which include Benjamin Russell, Star, and Star Face. He is the son of Dazzler and Longshot and, thanks to the time travel story lines often created in comics, is responsible for the creation of Longshot. Shatterstar is known to have eyes which appear to be clear or silvery, hollow bones, and being lighter than the average person.
As of this writing, there are no prospective actors being considered for the roles of “X-Force’s” Sunspot, Feral and Shatterstar. But whoever they may be, it is important to note that they won’t be a huge part of “Deadpool 2.” They will only show up in the post-credits, which is the studio’s way of launching the “X-Force” movie and tying it to the “Deadpool” storyline.
Production for “Deadpool 2” is set to begin this summer with David Leitch helming the film.
